Topic: Diagnosis of problems with UFX

I hope that you're all doing ok during these difficult times.

I'm running a UFX in a manner that uses both AES and Analogue Outputs with this working as expected for quite some time. The current situation, however, is that the AES output is working fine the Analogue Outputs don't seem to be able to drive (active) monitors despite the fact that TotalMix shows that the hardware outputs are working. Is there anything that can cause TotalMix to show hardware outputs working fine but for no signal to be output? Any ideas as to the potential problem?

Edit: Is it possible to use the Phones Outputs as a normal Analogue Output? I guess that this is an alternative to test

Yes, unbalanced.

An older UFX? Power supply might be broken. This can cause all AD/DA to fail.

Yes, unbalanced.

Thanks. I'll give that a go. Is there anything that I could have done on either the h/w or s/w side that would result in TotalMix showing that h/w outputs are active but the outputs themselves not driving the monitors?

No. Unless you did not try all analog outputs and only Mains is effected. Active Talkback, Mute, PFL, Solo and Speaker B come to mind.

Hmm - if this was the case then is it correct that a software input to analog output wouldn't work (as it requires the D/A)? That being the case then it could well be the problem. Can the power supply be replaced? Any idea as to the process of getting this sorted?

Do you see any AD noise in TotalMix, or are the analog input channels all on UFL?

It appears as if none of the analogue outputs will drive the active monitors. I've also toggled Mute which has had no impact

The digital (AES) input is routed to digital (AES) output and works fine.

The analogue inputs are routed to analogue outputs and show up on Total Mix but don't drive the monitors. I don't see noise in TotalMix. What is UFL?

The monitors are definitely working.

Not sure how to, definitively, prove or disprove whether the issue is a power supply failure.

Thanks

Re: Diagnosis of problems with UFX

TotalMix FX does have level meters for all input channels, and those usually show a number - the ground noise floor. But as your routing from analog inputs works it means only DA is affected. That would be a failure on the UFX mainboard, not a power supply error, and needs to be repaired by specialists.

Any suggestions as to specialists in Perth, Western Australia?

Thanks
