Topic: RME ADI-2 DAC FS: distorted sound on phones playback

Hello everyone,

I use RME ADI-2 DAC since December and I really enjoy it.
Today, first time I tried playback on phones i I get surprised.

On the phones sound is distorted, it hears like overdriven sound.
I checked on two pairs of phones I have. Problem occurs even when the low power mode is on and volume is -24dBm.
On the line out output problem doesn't occur.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,

Left AND Right?
On both headphone outputs?

I checked only left one, I don't have IEMs to check right one.

I thought it can be caused by too much power on the output, but Ref Level is set on -5 dBm

Re: RME ADI-2 DAC FS: distorted sound on phones playback

Symptom:
•1 ADI-2 DAC, distortions in the left Ch ext. pow. headphones-out only?
• with 2 different headphones,
with 2 different cables..
• No Distortion in the line out.
• IEM power headphones out not testet (use 3.5mm adapter with normal headphones to do so).

My remote diagnosis (only if •1 is fact):
One of the three amplifier chips that work together in each headphones amp channel is trancended into the happy hunting grounds — broken.
If distortions apperar on both ears, L+R, might be the headphones amps PSU switcher.

A case for RME's great and competent service, even if something else is broken.
