Topic: Had a compresseur hardware as insert
Hi all.
Is there a way and how, to add a hardware device (compresseur for example) as an insert in the Fireface UCX Input ?
Thank you.

Hi all.
Is there a way and how, to add a hardware device (compresseur for example) as an insert in the Fireface UCX Input ?
Thank you.
The FX section of the UCX contains a compressor.
If you want to perform this with external HW, then connect a compressor to the recording interface.
If your compressor has two channels, then you could use ports AN5/6.
HW Output AN5 -> Compressor L in and Compressor L out -> HW Input AN5
HW Output AN6 -> Compressor R in and Compressor R out -> HW Input AN6
Side note: to be "ADM compliant" then inputs should be mono and outputs stereo.
In this little example lets assume AN5 and AN6 are mono channels also on outputs.
To compress the Mic input we use the HW Output AN5 towards the external HW compressor.
You are recording vocals using HW Input AN1 and want to send it through the compressor ...
1. in TM FX make sure that "Submix Mode" is enabled
2. click to HW output AN5 and raise the fader of HW input AN1 to route the Mic signal to the compressor
3. configure compressor correctly to get an output signal
4. Now you should in TM FX a signal arriving on HW input AN5
Now you have on
- HW Input AN1 the original Mic signal
- HW Input AN5 the compressed Mic signal
In the DAW you can record both now and use it as you want / like / need.
If you want to use external HW on DAW level there are easier and better ways that even honor latencies involved.
Lets put Cubase as an example, which I know/use (how it is with other DAW products I can not tell):
F4 - Audio Connections (translated from German: "Audioverbindungen")
-> External Effects (translated from German: "Externe Effekte")
Once defined there you can use the external HW like a VST plugin in your DAW channels.
From Cubase Manual: "Cubase compensates for the input/output latency and ensures that the audio that is processed through external effects is not shifted in time."
Thank you very much.
It's a cleary answer.
You're welcome, have fun with your new setup.
