Topic: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

Hello,

Thank you for welcoming me to your forum.

At the beginning of this week, I received my power amplifier, namely :

Brand Kinki type EX-M7

The latter is connected via RCA to my ADI 2 DAC model 2020.

The DAC is powered via its USB input by a 2 pc audio bridged and running Fedora with Roon.

The level setting is Auto level in the ADI settings, no other modes activated, DSP, tone or other.

My concern is that towards -27 db and +, the amplifier goes to safety.

Below is the technical information of the amplifier:

Parameters

    Frequency Response: 0-2.5MHz (±3dB)
    THDN: <0.07% (-80db)
    S/N Ratio: >103db(0.01Hz- 1 MHz), >130db (A-Weighted)
    Output Power: 250 W RMS(2-8 Ohms)
Max Instantaneous Power: 400w RMS (8 Ohms)
    Max Output Voltage: 70VAC, 18A
    Slew Rate: 200 V /us (Rise Time < 100ns)
AC Power: 110/240VAC, 50/60Hz (Factory configure).
Power Consumption: 30W Idle, 700W Max Output

Input / Output

    Input Sensitivity: 1.45Vrms
Input Impedance: 51kΩ (Acceptable Range 10k-52kΩ)
    Input Connector: RCA x 1, XLR x 1

Any reason between the technical specifications of the ADI and the Kinki that could cause this problem?

Which solution ?

Thank you for your help

Alain

Re: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

Can you try to connect any other source than the ADI-2 and try if the amp goes to safety or not, at similar loud music?

Re: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

Correct. The numbers don't support such a failure state. 1.45 Vrms = +5.45 dBu. The ADI can put out +13 dBu at 0 dB volume RCA, so at volume -7.5 dBr the amp would be at max power. Not -27 dB, that doesn't make sense.

Re: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

Hello,

Test carried out with a CD player and another amplifier with a pre-output connected to the power amplifier.

Same observation, the power amplifier goes to safety at about 70-80 watts.

So, problems with the RME ADI discarded.

Thanks

Re: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

Hello,

Is it possible to have a recorded and constant volume level on the DAC ADI2 when it is switched on?

Example -65 db ?

If the day before the last listening was at -35 db ,this -35db at the next power-up RESTAINS...

Thanks

Alain

Re: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

You can disable the volume all together to maintain a fixed level, per output. But we will not add an option to disable the volume memory function.

Re: ADI 2 DAC with power amplifier

Hello,

When activating the DSD mode on the ADI 2 all filter and other tone settings are bypassed, like a "pure direct" (?) but is the qualitative use of the ADI pre-amp mode also more operational?

Thanks

Alain

I don't understand the question.
