Topic: Audirvana - RME ADI 2 failing RME wav bit test

Hi there,

I completed a bit perfect test with my RME ADI 2 DAC, utilising the RME bit perfect Wav files.

Using Audirvana, the tests pass on 16, and 32 bit depths, but fail on the 24bit wavs, passing through at 16bit.

As a comparison, I used Jriver and Foobar, to perform the same tests.
Jriver passed on all bit depths. 16, 24, 32bit, no issues.
Foobar passed up to 24bit, but failed on 32bit depth.

I am not using any sampling, or volume control.
All tests used the same Asio driver from RME.

Here is a thread I created at Audirvana. I was wondering if anyone could help explain why Audirvana fails the 24bit test?

https://community.audirvana.com/t/rme-a … ails/17298

Thanks heaps.

I doubt so. You need to have a pause between playback of the files. The message must vanish first before the next file starts, or the old message stays visible.

This is unfortunately not the case.
I only have 24bit files in the cue. (If you refer to the Audirvana link, a picture shows this.)
In fact playing just one 24bit test file at a time, still displays the 16 bit passed message.

In any regard, I can play any combination of the files in Jriver and Foobar with bit passes.

I have also tested on two different laptops, so I don't believe this is a settings or device issue.

Here is a short video of the issue:

Re: Audirvana - RME ADI 2 failing RME wav bit test

I don't have Audirvana, so can't comment on details, but I can clear up a bit confusion. The DAC's messages are limited. If Audirvana (for example) toggles bit 24 then you have a 23 bit perfect playback. The ADI will still message 16 bit, because it can't identify the steps in-between 16, 24 and 32.

You might have overlooked a simple setting like dither or so.

I have checked settings, there doesn't seem to be any settings which would impact bit depth.

And since the player passes 16bit and 32bit depths, this doesn't quite stack up.
Nevertheless I appreciate your insight.

Hopefully the guys at Audirvana chime in to help.
FYI, Audrivana is a free download to try.

Are there any users on the RME forum who running the ADI 2 and Audirvana?

Just use foobar. https://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/Int … Player.htm

Good in theory, but there is no Tidal integration.

That is true unfortunately. There is a python script though, which in theory lets you download the music from tidal and then play it in foobar. (https://github.com/yaronzz/Tidal-Media-Downloader )
I never tried it though, so can't comment on how well it works.

Yes I use Audirvana 3.5.39 for Mac and ADI-2 DAC via USB.
Just tested = Bit Test 24-Bit passed for 44.1 and 96 kHz

Mac Mini 2018, Apple Thunderbolt Display, macOS Monterey, ADI-2 DAC V.1, Hifiman Arya V.1

Amazing thank you.
I'm using the Windows version 3.5.39.
But its good to know the IOS version works fine.

Interesting, I have tested using 2 windows PC's, running fresh Audirvana installs, I have even tried different USB cables.

Is their anyone with a windows machine that can test, with the RME ADI2?

Re: Audirvana - RME ADI 2 failing RME wav bit test

I just removed the RME asio driver and re-ran the tests.

Jriver passes all tests again.
Audirvana passes on 16, 32bit, but 24bit is passed through as a 16bit pass.
Same as before.

I have now tried testing on two laptops, running fresh installs of Audirvana, and one has a fresh win10 install.
To me this suggests an issue with Audirvana or a Audirvana setting.

Re: Audirvana - RME ADI 2 failing RME wav bit test

Not proven by any means, Audrivana, in my opinion is an Apple first platform, and makes coding changes to Win later. I'm also a JRiver 26 user>. Both have their quirks. if you are computer-comfortable, JRiver may make you happier. ADI-2 not the issue.

No i didn't say that.
I just suggested it looks to be the software or a setting, as the other software options provide bit perfect outputs during tests.
