Topic: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Hi there,

Just turned on my system, where I have 2 ADI-DS... One of them, out of a sudden didn't want to turn on as it should and just keeps blinking all leds rapidly.
Tried many times to turn it off, disconnect the main power cable, the ADAT cables...etc.. nothing would make it start up normally.

I hope it's not completely dead hmm/

Any help for this ??

Here is a quick video of the behavior.

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

with me it was the internal psu. you can order from the local distributor. it is not difficult, but you must be safe with electrics.

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Thanks for your quick reply.
Just took the unit off it's spot, and it totally smells like burned electronics.

I would assume the PSU also.

What do you mean I must be safe with electrics ?
Order from local distributor, do you mean a shop around that sells RME products ?

Thanks again !

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

t meant it does require some electrical  skills have a look inside. if other things then the psu are burnt.... I meant distributor. You can find one for your country on the RMe site or ask here.

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Should be all fine to replace the PSU in terms of skills, if something else is defective I'll need more inputs for sure.

I'll see with my local retailer. It's going to be a long weekend without this guy !

I know the unit is definitely not a mk3, but I can't find anywhere if it's a mk2, or mk1.. if that makes any difference for the psu ?

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Now you are on rme expert territory. Sorry I have no clue. I have a adi8ae which is a cheaper adi8ds mk1.
Maybe you can compare pictures on google.
Hope you get it fixed

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Got the spare PSU after weeks of waiting.. and unfortunately, it hasn't solved the problem.
I have checked the main board and there are 3 ICs that have suffered badly. Respectively IC1, IC22 and IC32.

I'm wondering if this can be fixed ? or if I'm an unlucky guy with a dead RME product hmm

You can send it in for a repair cost quotation.

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

yup smile on it's way.

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

No luck unfortunately, the IC's that have burned out can't be replaced because not existing anymore.
I was thinking that RME products were lava-proof tongue

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Would be nice...

I recommend to put the new power supply into the other old ADI-8 DS to prevent a similar event happening.

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

Sorry I missed that last reply.

Thanks for the tip, is the new PSU having better circuit protection or something ? If it guarantees a longer life time to the units (I have 2), I definitely upgrade the PSU's.

Another question, I found quite some retailers that sell the ADG451BR online. Would that be a bad idea to try ordering and replacing the damaged ones ?

Re: ADI-8 DS - All leds flashing

The newer versions will start the typical life cycle again. Plus they should have better caps that last longer.

The burnt 451 indicate overvoltage. Probably many more circuits are destroyed, not only the visible ones, so you can try, but there is no guarantee it will work then. Remove them first and check if more circuits run hot or if the board draws too much current...
