Topic: Connecting Rme ad2 dac fs headphone out to monitors?

Hi

I am planning to buy an Adi 2 dac fs and I was wondering if its possible to connect a pair of studio monitors to the headphone output via Y cable. Will there be any difference in signal quality and other issues? I actually have 2 sets of monitors in my studio. I'll be connecting one pair via the xlr line out. I need a solution for the other pair.
Thank you

This is possible, no quality issues there, but:

I would suggest to either use the RCA outs for the 2nd pair and use a multiple switched power strip for the monitors to select which pair is playing:

Or, if you switch around more often, a little audio switch-box:

As it turns out today that you also have an UFX (https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 71#p186071)
then you have also this option:

Use the UFX as main recording interface and integrate the ADI-2 DAC or Pro into your setup by using either
- ADAT (ADI-2 DAC/Pro) or
- AES (ADI-2 Pro only).

ADI-2 Dac/Pro only need this digital connection as clock slave, but you can keep it connected to USB to be able to perform firmware upgrades which needs USB.

Then in TM FX (of your UFX) you can define
- Main Out to be your main monitors connected behind ADAT or AES port (depening on the type of ADI-2)
- Main Out B to be your 2nd set of monitors connected to any of your UFX analog ports (Analog 1-8 out)

As an option you could also get an ARC USB, connect it to your computer and the switch between the two pairs of monitors by selecting two different TM FX snapshots.
