I just received a supposedly brand new RME ADI-2 DAC FS.
The screen shows residue from wiping with some liquid.
The silica gel was inside the paper box, but outside the transparent plastic bag that wraps the dac.
The sticker explaining the twist-lock DC power plug was missing.
Do you still remember who sold you the unit?

Yes, but I do not want to post it. I do not know whether there was something wrong, or, if there was, where (retailer, distributer, importer, exporter, factory) the wrong practice occurred. FYI, the transparent plastic wrap outside of the paper box looked professional to me.
I sent the retailer information to RME. I did not receive any reply, yet.

Return it to the shop which sold the unit to you.

The retailer is trying hard to reject my return request.
It is still in the period of "free return" (returnable, no questions asked) period, but the retailer is constantly trying to shut down my return request.
The retailer now says that he knows very well that some products are opened during import process and then later re-packed.
He now suggests replacement instead of refund. What would be better? Replacement, or refund?

I would opt for a refund. If the retailer wants to put down your request in the first place you definitely cannot trust him.
Have you tried carefully cleaning the display with a damp (not wet) cloth?

No. I wanted the retailer (or the distributer) see the dirty screen.
Curse will haunt the dishonest for lifetime.
