Topic: ADI-2 DAC died

I updated my firmware and drivers on the dac 11 days ago and it has been 11 days filled with problems like audio stutter and more.
last night when watching a movie it turned itself and will not power on again (the power led is also off) i have done the standard check the cables and is all connected.
Note. before the update the dac has been preforming perfectly for about 2 years

have anyone else had this?

Re: ADI-2 DAC died

Maybe just a coincidence, and ADI-2 simply broke, so you need to send it in for repair.

Before, you could check if it’s just a PSU issue, which would save you from sending the whole unit in:

Did you notice the power connector that goes into ADI-2’s back has a “Turn-Lock”?

Manual page 7:

Socket for power connection. This socket supports locking type jacks as found on the included RME DC power supply. After inserting the connector carefully turn it by 90° so that it locks. If the unit turns off easily when moved then the connector is NOT fully inserted into the socket!

Look very closely:
No silver part of the plug may be visible, all silver hidden inside the socket, or the plug is not all-in, which might cause intermittent contact.

If this doesn’t help:
With a voltmeter or a car-voltage-check-lamp you can inspect if the PSU still delivers voltage.

Re: ADI-2 DAC died

thank you for reply and your good instructions, my dac is dead but i am wondering if anyone have problems with the latest drivers and firmware since all of mine started after i got the latest ones.

sorry for my English.

Re: ADI-2 DAC died

firmware updates will not kill ADI-2. Even if the most recent update is flawed, there's also factory burned firmware the machine can fallback to.
