Topic: Speaker setup issues

Hello,

I have been using the ADI-2 DAC for awhile now with only headphones and it is working great.  I recently got a pair of Focal Chora 806 bookshelf speakers that I want to use with the ADI-2.  I bought XLR to Banana Plug cables for each one and plugged them in to the line out.  I am not getting any sound out of them.  I'm an audio newb, so I'm not sure if I need some other piece of equipment or different cables, but I don't know why I am not getting sound.  I have checked all the basic things like being on mute and source setting.

Thanks

Re: Speaker setup issues

You need a proper stereo amplifier for the speakers. You use the ADI-2 DAC as a pre-amp in this case, so you'd connect the Focals to an external amp and then connect said amp to the RME.

Thanks.  Do you know what cables should connect the AMP to the ADI-2 DAC?  I have banana plugs going from the speakers to the amp (there are 3 plugs per left and right channel 0 (black) 4 ohm (red) 8ohm (red) on the amp).  Should I try to get cables that use the balanced XLR plugs on the ADI-2 DAC?

Yes, if your speaker amp has XLR female connectors as input.

Else use RCA - RCA between ADI-2 DAC and speaker / power amp.

Quality XLR cables are otainable in musicians stores for reasonable prices.
This is an example for already a higher quality one:
