Topic: RME ADI-2 High- Lowpass filters - Bookshelf + Subwoofer

Hello dear Community,
this is my first post so I'm very sorry if my english is bad or isn't up to this forum standards.

I want to build myself a small Hifi system as I'm very limited in space.
I own now a pair of Elac BS243.3 they sound great with acapella songs, meaning no bass just voice and maybe a violin or something. As soon as bass comes into play it sounds blurry like there is no separation for some reason.
So my idea was to buy a subwoofer, I'm owning currently a Rotel RB850 that has been refurbished, new caps etc.

So my System consists now of a Pair of Elac BS243.3 and a 2 channel Rotel RB850 amp that is for now connected to my Mic Interface Scarlett Solo 3gen with Lineout to the Rotel Amp.

My idea was to use the RME ADI-2 (not sure which one) as a DAC and according to this Post, ADI-2 is able to create -pass filters.

I would like to have a highpass filter on the RB850 and Elac 243.3 and then use a subwoofer with lowpass filter, not sure If I would like a passive or active subwoofer, I think it would be rather a passive Subwoofer.

I'm also open for suggestions if there is maybe an AMP that does this already.
I've heard a lot good about RME ADI-2 so I want one and I also have headphones but just some normal AKG K712 ones for playing games.

Re: RME ADI-2 High- Lowpass filters - Bookshelf + Subwoofer

As your Elac speakers, due to their size, are very limited in bass power and response, a true 2-way configuration should be used, to completely remove the bass load from them.

ADI-2 Pro and ADI-2 2/4 SE can do this, they have 2 separated stereo channels with individual processing.

ADI-2 DAC doesn’t, it’s single DAC does serve one output at a time only.

Personally I prefer active subs, no additional power amp is needed and the manufacturer has a lot more options for getting the best tuning.

With ADI-2 you can, of course, replicate a lot of this on a passive subwoofer, even a DIY project is thinkable.

Look here how to get the best out of a sub, Case 2 would be a good solution:

Once you have your sub(s) you can run trough this process to optimize the result.

BTW: A sub can’t be too strong.
