Topic: ADI-2/4 Pro Routing Question

I just recently purchased the newly released ADI-2/4 Pro (awaiting delivery) and have a question about routing.

I have a UCX II I use with TotalMix FX. I will be sending audio to the ADI-2/4 digitally via my UCX II for headphone + speaker monitoring.

I am looking to plug speakers out from the ADI-2/4 Pro (ch 1/2 - rear), and headphones out from the ADI-2/4 Pro (ch 3/4 - front).

Is there any way I can independently control the output volume of both 1/2 and 3/4 via totalmix so I can control the volume of both speakers and headphones? Or would I need to do this via the front panel of my ADI-2/4?

I looked in the downloadable manual for the ADI-2/4 but was a bit confused about routing in this scenario. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: ADI-2/4 Pro Routing Question

Using TM would require to use two digital ports, like AES and SPDIF optical, from UCX II to ADI-2, activate Multichannel mode in the ADI and set the sources for its outputs accordingly. Looking at the block diagrams you will find 3 modes allowing this setup.

Re: ADI-2/4 Pro Routing Question

Hi GeometryGod,

welcome to the RME user forum.

In my blog I described such a setup, as mentioned by Matthias, how to select the output of an ADI-2 Pro by sending audio to either the AES or ADAT input of that device.

The relevant steps of configuration for the ADI-2 Pro

Setup -> Options -> Device Mode / DSD -> Basic Mode: AD/DA
Setup -> Options -> Device Mode / DSD -> CC-Mode: Multichannel
I/O -> Main Output 1/2 -> AD/DA Source: AES
I/O -> Phones Out 3/4  -> AD/DA Source: SPDIF
Store settings in one of the presets.

Certainly, works for the ADI-2/4 Pro SE as well.

Personally, I don't use this type of setup anymore because I don't need to switch between active monitors and headphones that often. So, it turned out to be more practical to simply remapping a button on the ADI-2 Pro for switching.

At the end of the day, it also saves a digital input and snapshot space in TotalMix FX that I'd rather use for other things.
I've described how this works with key re-mapping, and what other re-mappings have proven useful to me, in this article:
