Topic: Madiface driver does not install

I've owned the RME ADI-2 DAC for about a year. I have never been able to install the driver on my PC/Windows. I can download the driver and update(s), and extract the files, but upon download they do not install.

The ADI shows up in Device Manager, but states "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." But then no applicable drivers are found on my PC.

I love the RME and I hope I can enjoy its full functionality soon smile

Re: Madiface driver does not install

Have you tried manual installation?
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 19#p169219
then start dpinst64.exe or dpinst.exe.

Re: Madiface driver does not install

I've spent a number of hours reading and trying to apply the recommendations I've read: https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=36964

I've downloaded, installed, then uninstalled and then reinstalled the Madiface driver many times.

I have tried to manually download the driver via Device Manager, but even after reinstalling drivers and rebooting the PC, the RME device itself is recognised by my PC, but no Madiface drivers are found in a manual installation attempt.

So, I am able to use the RME, but no Madiface driver or icon is recognised on the PC.

I read the advice re: a manual installation: https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 19#p169219

From Matthias: 'path\rmeinstaller.exe /manual

will extract all files into C:\RMEdriver. Problem is this function was broken since 0.9679, but is back in the just released v 0.9735'

But there is no RME driver in which to extract the files.

Full disclosure, I am an English teacher, not an audio engineer smile But I was hoping there would be a straightforward solution.

Can you post a screenshot of the Device Manager showing the ADI-2 DAC?

To post a picture, it is not enough to enter the file name.

First you have to copy the file to a place on the World Wide Web that is accessible to everyone.
If you don't have access to a webspace, you can use a free image hosting site. Here a some recommendations: https://www.guru99.com/free-photo-hosting.html.
The you have to put the whole address oft the picture between the img tags
http://www.[site.*]/[path]/[filename].jpg

Here is an example, i used some time ago with in my case and webspace:

After executing rmeinstaller.exe /manual there are several files in the directory C:\RMEdriver.

  • cab1.cab

  • cabx64.cab

  • dpinst.exe

  • dpinst.xml

  • dpinst64.exe

  • eula_de.txt

  • eula_en.txt

  • madiface_usb.cat

  • madiface_usb.inf

  • madiface_usb.sys

  • madiface_usb_64.sys

  • madiface_usb_asio.dll

  • madiface_usb_asio_64.dll

  • madiface_usb_old.cat

  • madifaceusb.exe

  • rme.bmp

  • TotalMixFX.chm

  • TotalMixFX.exe

  • vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi

  • vc_runtimeMinimum_x86.msi

To install the driver you have to ether execute dpinst64.exe (64 bit) or dpinst.exe (32 bit), depending on your system. https://helpcenter.trendmicro.com/en-us … tmka-14342

Re: Madiface driver does not install

Or maybe point treiber aktualiseren from device manager to the madiface usb.inf file.
Or and I am no ADI2 expert, could the device be in CC mode?

Thank you for your explanation. I am not trying to be rude or difficult, I guess I am too much of a consumer; I am not IT-proficient smile

Here are the first three screenshots I took of the RME device at various stages of my attempts; hopefully they better explain what is happening. I will post the rest in subsequent messages.

Open the link in the browser and right-click into the image.
Then copy image-address
Use this image address for the image tag in the forum.
Then your image will show up.
The link provided from the image upload sevice is not the image-address, it is a webpage containing your image.

Thank you, the help is much appreciated...I am a bit surprised, are the directions for posting a photo written somewhere on RME's website?

Re: Madiface driver does not install

'Other devices' is an unused part of Class Compliant - ignore it. The real part is the one under Audio, Video and Game Controller. This one currently has the Windows included driver, the unit runs in CC mode.

I still don't get what you are doing here. Running the file rmeinstaller.exe from the downloaded zip file and rebooting would install the RME driver and that's it.

Re: Madiface driver does not install

Thank you Matthias,

I apologise if I'm unclear or confused. I hope I am not wasting your time.

Regarding what I am doing here:

On p. 40 of the RME ADI-2 manual, paragraph 4: "After a reboot, the icon of the Settings dialog appears in the notification area..."

But there is no icon on my PC for this driver, not behind a triangle or anything else, not after any PC reboot or factory reset of the RME. I cannot operate any aspect of the RME from my PC. So, I assume I am missing something.

I would like to explore the RME ADI-2 options for buffer size, sample rate etc (as described in p. 41 of the manual) but am unable to do so.

I was able to open Digicheck, but it does not recognise the RME ADI-2 (see screenshot)

Here are two screenshots (I understand what you say to ignore 'Other devices' but every place I look for the RME in my PC, aside from 'Audio, Video and Game Controller', indicates no connection:

Re: Madiface driver does not install

I don't understand many things here, too many unanswered questions.

First:
Have you ever seen this window?

http://www.rawac.de/bilder/RME/Complete_installation.jpg

This is the windows at the end of the installation. At the end of running rmeinstaller.exe. Before you are asked to restart the system.

Second:
Does the file C:\Windows\System32\madifaceusb.exe exist on your system?

If Yes:

Please connect the ADI-2 DAC to the system with an USB cable. Switch it on.

Third:
Do you see the message >USB Mode active< in the display of the DAC after the RME?

If Yes:

Fourth:
What happens, if you double click the file  C:\Windows\System32\madifaceusb.exe now?
Does the RME icon appear?

http://www.rawac.de/bilder/RME/RME_Icon.jpg

Maybe you need to expand the ^ to the left of the existing icons.

No, this has never appeared, and I have never been asked to restart my system after installation.

No, this file does not show up in a file search.

I can play music via PC and USB. I see in 'State Overview' that the USB is connected.

No, no icon appears, and the file does not indicate anything after a double click.

I have expanded the ^ and there is no icon.

Thank you Matthias,

Unfortunately I am unable to take or post a screenshot like that, because after I run the installer (and give permission for the installer to 'run'), there are no windows. A 'loading' window appears for .5 seconds two times, so fast I can only read a few words (C+, minimal, Microsoft, runtime, 2015, config, a few other words), then nothing happens.

Re: Madiface driver does not install

Thanks for this clear statement. So the installer starts but then never shows its first screen, which means nothing got installed.

This brings us back to post 7 where rawac explained what you have to do after extracting the driver files. You did not react on that one, it seems.

Thank you Matthias,

I thought I reacted to post 7 through all the screenshots posted, as I did try to follow the advice. I apologise if I was not clear.

This is the relevant text in Post 7:

'After executing rmeinstaller.exe /manual there are several files in the directory C:\RMEdriver.

I tried to execute rmeinstaller.exe /manual and I tried to locate the directory C:\RMEdriver. Command Prompt did not recognize the directive to execute rmeinstaller.exe /manual, and I found no directory C:\RMEdriver through File Explorer, regedit.exe or a Command Prompt search.

I did however just now have an hourlong conversation with a friend who works for Microsoft. He and I read this thread, focusing on Post 7, and he walked me through locating the C:\RMEdriver (this directory was "hidden' and multiple steps were needed to locate via Command Prompt). The drivers are now downloaded, icons are appearing, windows confirming download are appearing, etc. Success!

Thanks again for everyone's assistance...it is unfortunate that I do not appear to be the targeted customer for RME products, but it has been a good learning experience. I look forward to getting more out of the RME DAC smile
