Topic: Totalmix Routing

Hello,

I have a question about internal routings on Totalmix.

I have various mono synths, or in general single channel synths that I usually send to 2 channels stereo FX.
What happens when you send a single channel to 2 channel processors like this?
Does totalmix duplicates the signal and sends to left and right FX processor or only to the left of the processor to create the stereo signal?

Reason I am asking mainly is that I will buy a dual analog EQ and want to understand how the routing will be handled when sending a mono/single channel to it.

Thanks

Re: Totalmix Routing

Hi
Totalmix behaves like a hardware mixing desk. A mono input channel is sent to the 'phantom center' of a stereo output as long the pan is set to '0'. So you would have the same signal on both left and right hardware outputs.

Re: Totalmix Routing

Hi Alex, I wonder what is preventing you from trying this out yourself ;-)

Of course, the mono signal can be sent to both outputs. All you have to do is set the balance/pan control on the HW input to the center position.

You have to adjust this every time you switch a stereo input to mono because the channels are per default hard panned to the left and the right (*). BTW, same for SW playbacks (audio from the PC).

This must be done for all HW outputs (submixes) where needed (where you route the input to) as each HW output has its own individual submix.

(*) By the way, if you like, you can change this default behavior in the TM FX Preferences (F2):
“[x] Center Balance/Pan when changing Mono/Stereo”.

Re: Totalmix Routing

Hi everyone!

Thanks a lot for the info.
So this means when my FX channels are set to stereo and linked in Totalmix, then is all good.

Cheers

Re: Totalmix Routing

Sorry but I do not understand your conclusion in the context of your original question.

The nature of every stereo channels is: 1x mono panned hard left and 1x mono panned hard right.

TM FX supports both, it is only the default presentation to show up as a lot of stereo channels.
AN1/2, AN3/4, ADAT 1/2, ...

You can organize it as stereo or mono channels as needed.
And a mono channel can be routed to a stereo channel.
If you want the signal to be in the center of the stereo panorama, then take care of the setting of the balance knob.
