Topic: Request for RoomEQ on Babyface Pro FS

Hey everyone, i am a proud user of the Babyface Pro FSand absolutely love it, but I really miss having RoomEQ.
I know the DSP on this device has its limits, but I'd gladly trade some channels, effects, or even higher frequencies just to get RoomEQ.

Does anyone know if there's any hope of this happening in a future update? I'm still holding out hope that there might be some way to make it work, even with the limitations.

I've tried searching through various posts on the forum but couldn't find anything about this.

Thanks!

I don’t think it will happen for this unit. The reason you can’t find anything is because there isn’t anything. Yes I’d like it but I don’t think it is capable.

Babyface Pro Fs, Behringer ADA8200, win 10/11 PCs, Cubase/Wavelab, Adam A7X monitors.

Haha, you're probably right but, I won't be at peace until I get a valid reason or, even better, an official response (just kidding, but only slightly!). I'm really holding onto a glimmer of hope here.

I get that it might not be technically possible, but I'd still love to hear something official from the RME team. Even a definitive "no" would at least put my mind at rest.

Appreciate your input!

Cheers

Most software players and daws can do this without breaking any sweat.

Anyone who has followed the history of the device should know that the Babyface Pro is packed to the brim with everything that can be operated with USB2 bus power.

One of the compromises is that some FX functions have to be executed via the driver on the PC because a dedicated FX chip would draw too much power. Better to have usable headphone outputs, the device "as it is".

If you need functions such as Room EQ (or Crossfeed), you must at least have a device with a dedicated chip for FX (2nd FPGA in the device) — as I understand RME's posting. And this is definitely not within the scope of a Babyface Pro, which can also be operated with USB2 bus power.

Quite apart from the price. There are users who are happy that the Babyface Pro is not as expensive as a UCX II, and it has already risen significantly in price due to “global price increases”, first from €698 to €899, now fortunately back at €819.

So, if you require more, you have to go for a larger device that is not designed for mobility and is not bus-powered.

But what's the problem? Your question was also in the direction of a future Babyface. Let's ignore the power requirement for a moment. With the FX chip, such a new BBF would become pricier by the 2nd FPGA (for FX, ...) and you would have had to buy a new one anyway, right?

So why don't you get a UCX II now, which will give you several other advantages that even a redesigned Babyface Pro would never get? Yes, at €1369 it is a little pricier than the current Babyface Pro FS, but not much more as a redesigned Babyface pro with Room EQ would cost. Additionally, you also get a lot more in return, as the UCX II includes some features that were previously only available on the flagship interfaces.

I think of Autoset, DURec, Mic Pre's with 75 dB gain range, AES port, even more powerful headphone outputs, nice status display, nicely operable with the display in stand-alone mode, Port for ARC USB, 6 stand-alone profiles and more. Furthermore, cabling is better as most cables go straight to the back.

Be happy (instead of crying), there is a device (UCX II) that meets your requirements and that you can buy immediately at a really reasonable, not too high price. The whole thing can also be easily financed by selling your Babyface Pro; you can basically calculate with around 75% of the street price (due to the quality and long driver maintenance of RME products).
