Topic: ADI-2/4 Pro SE (AD/DA vs DAC Mode)

I'm trying to understand the differences (i.e. the use cases) for AD/DA versus DAC source. I would expect AD/DA to refer to analog inputs, but according to the manual: AD/DA = current digital input signal

Further to this, to my understanding if I want to listen to a turntable with phono pre amplification done by the ADI-2/4, I need to select the preamp mode.

If I want to switch from the analog input to digital input via use, I need to select USB, DAC or AD/DA?

As a last question, can I use the physical remote to swtich between preamp and USB| DAC | AD/DA ?

I don't think the manual explains those points clearly enough, at least to me.

To your last point.
Save the configs as you like and then switch between configs assigning a key on the remote to load a certain config.

For easiest operation:
• Use DAC-Mode.
• Switch the source on the IR Remote (only possible in DAC Mode),  I/O / Line Out 1/2 / Settings / Source, or in the ADI-2 Remote app.

The other “Modes” are for special use-cases.

RIAA preamp is switched in I/O  / Analog Input / Settings / RIAA Mode, see manual page 16.

Re: ADI-2/4 Pro SE (AD/DA vs DAC Mode)

Thanks for the advice. DAC mode is definitely the way to go!

Re: ADI-2/4 Pro SE (AD/DA vs DAC Mode)

AD/DA would be used feeding a source into a DAW for recording/editing (A-to-D) and playback from the DAW to your speakers (D-to-A).  For just listening DAC is exactly what you'd use as already mentioned.
