Topic: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

After releasing RoomEQ for UFX+, UFX II, UFX III and UCX II, see here:  https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=38691 we are now ready to add RoomEQ to the remaining interfaces of our list:

- Fireface 802 FS. For technical reasons only the FS version can provide RoomEQ.

- HDSPe MADI FX rev 2: For technical reasons only the revision 2 can provide RoomEQ. The version can be easily recognized as its FPGA firmware version is above 200.

- The MADIface XT II. This unit is not part of this beta release as it is not yet available, but will be soon, and will support RoomEQ from the start.

Requirements
Make sure your driver is up to date. But even more important is to replace the TotalMix FX on your system with the latest version 1.94b1, see link below. The firmware needs to be updated as well as it adds the RoomEQ to the hardware.

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

For us HDSPe MADI FX rev 1 users, is there any hope for room eq in the future or will the card never be able to work with room eq? Wanted to confirm before trying to sell mine and finding a rev 2 card. Thanks.

I explained that already: this is a hardware limitation.

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

As previously requested, an option to store Room EQ settings in Snapshots would be a welcome addition, in addition to the ability to store it in Workspaces.

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

YEEESSS!!!!! Thx RME!!!

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

Sure, this thread is related for Fireface 802 FS, HDSPe and MADI FX etc...
Anyhow, I am testing the TM, Version 1.94 beta 1 macOS (2) with my "old" FF802 - A with the (latest) firmware: 20/9/9/12

Currently with the kext driver v.3.31 an Mac.

Sure, not really a bug, but after launching TM, the Popup cames up:

A newer Firmware is available for you Fireface 802 (xyz).
Please check out RME website.
(TotalMix FX is still compatible with currently installed version.)

Wow! Brand new RME user here and I'm really glad that I went for the FS version of 802 less than a month ago!

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

Sigh. Ok
I'll settle for a nice update to TotalMix FX...

1. Dual Mono Channels — dual mono outputs (example 1+2) with EQ so each channel can be EQ'd independently... Budget RoomEQ!

2. Panning for mono channels (not only stereo)

3. Fullscreen option (not just the preset window zoom)

This exists already. Just don't use the Control Room section.

I figured out the mono output for analog 1+2... what about the panning? Haven't noticed a pan knob on any mono channels

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

As you did split the stereo output channel into two mono output channels, a pan is no longer possible.
A mono channel can not have a pan when the output is also a mono channel.

Oh... right
I'm just used to seeing pan knobs on mono tracks so it threw me off when it wasn't there

Can I recognize this from a card that is not in a computer? Is there a writing on the card that states the firmware?

Ah as a MADI FX rev 1 user, no room EQ for me.  I will recover *sigh* haha.

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

Hey RME Team,

just wanted to shout out with the biggest thank you for your teaming up with Sonarworks and ending a sh*t load of pain.

I bought a Fireface 802 back in 2014 and was happy with this device every second I used it. At some point back in 2019 I introduced Sonarworks Reference ID to my studio. Back then with a 2.0 Setup of ATC SCM 25. Great workflow to set up the calibration when mixing and mastering and only using Sonarworks as virtual sound card. 2022 I extended my studio with a recording room. From this moment on I needed to use an aggregated sound device in OSX to be able to use the Fireface together with Sonarworks as input and output device simultaneously. This caused, depending on the Sonarworks release, more or less issues. But still the benefit for my work was bigger than the hassle.

Last week I heard of the possibility to export the corrective EQ to RME devices. Unfortunatly my FF 802 was too old. I immediately sold it on Ebay for more than 50% of the money spent 10 years ago - which is incredible - and bought a FF 802 FS. I am now running a calibrated and time aligned 2.1 ATC System with NO more glitches, pops or any artefacts and couldnt be happier. The system works a fine as ten years ago with all the benefits that evolved in the meantime.

Thanks so much! Seriously.

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

I am just wondering if it would be possible to create an update in which the user can draw-in the room-correction curve by hand (himself) to upload into Totalmix.

It is a bit of a U-turn, for example for users like me, to make us pay 89 euro (to Sonarworks) to first upgrade SoundID in order to use room-correction in Totalmix.

A general room-correction-drawing-application would be much more universal and flexible. The technology would be the same technology software VST EQ-makers use.

What are you talking about?

Fireface UCX II + ARC USB > ADI-2 Pro FS R BE > Neumann KH 750 DSP + MA 1 > KH 120 A

Sonarworks Reference 4 (the version i have) does not support the feature we are talking about, in order to use that feature i have to upgrade to Sound ID reference and pay 89 euro.

Don't you think that would be a bit much to ask in terms of the implementation effort? After all, you already get the Room EQ from RME for free. That makes the €89 for a Sonarworks upgrade easy to get over.

The Sonarworks upgrade is just due because they seem to have implemented a lot of additional things, that's the way it is. Not every company is like RME and Sonarworks does not sell Hardware, except the little measurement Mic.

https://www.sonarworks.com/blog/product … -reference

A workaround. Get the demo version, after measuring dial-in a proper wet/dry ratio (because 100% correction doesn't sound natural anymore, for me 50% were ok). Then print it, make notes what needs to be corrected where and you have your room correction. If you want, you can fiddle around with Q-factors, there you have another kind of drawing tool ;-)

If you want to have it "isi pisi" and exported values .. well .. only €89 ...

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

How about Room EQ Wizard? It can do it all and much more, no need to update sonarworks unless you need a plug and play solution.

Re: Room EQ & Crossfeed for Fireface 802 FS and HDSPe MADI FX

@ Ramses, never thought of the possibility to use the trial version of Sound ID, simply because i would think that would not make any sense for Sonarworks to allow. After all its a onetime exercise to get the correction-curve and once loaded into my 802 FS there is no more need of SW. Wicked suggestion. I will try.
