Topic: ADAT Loop?

Hello everyone, This has probably been answered a thousand times already but I couldn't find anything specific to my situation.
I'm going out from BabyFace Pro fs to in of an ADI-2 fs out to in of a
Black Lion Audio Revolution EXP 8x8 AD/DA Converter out to in to BabyFace using ADAT (Toslink). Basically a loop I know technically ADAT can't loop but for simple explanation let's just call it a loop!
Should this be done from BBF to BL to ADI or as first example?
Does it matter I have everything set to get clock from ADAT or optical in TM and on BL EXP.
Where should clock source come from? Does it matter?

Re: ADAT Loop?

Where is the problem?
You send audio digitally through several devices (ADI-2 FS, BLion) and back to BBF Pro.
Its possible, why not.

One device in such a setup needs to be clock master.
From handling perspective best the device which is directly connected to the PC.
Then the sample rate can be set by the application and all clock slaves in this setup
will sync to the masters clock which they receive together with audio data from their ADAT input.

Some information about clock synchronization, see my blog:

Re: ADAT Loop?

Thank you very much, ramses for the info and the link very informative.
I'm assuming that the BBF is clock source it is the interface connected via USB to computer.
Once connected as per your example, In Fireface USB settings only have option to use optical or S/PDIF clock source.
On ADI-2 fs Have the input set to OPT output as ADAT, BL can only connect via ADAT (Toslink) have it set for ADAT. All are synced at 48k but where is clock source coming from?

Re: ADAT Loop?

See driver settings, clock source = internal means, that at device will use its own internal clock and send out clock information out all digital interfaces. Clock slaves you configure by telling from which digital input (or WC) clock is coming from.
