Topic: Remote setup

Hello. I am having a difficult time setting up total mix remote.

System: RME MADI FX (windows 10PC) + Ferrofish A32Pro + MS surface w/ RME remote.

My goal is to use my A32 Pro as a submixer to headphones including panning.

I believe to gain panning, I must use RME total mix. (internal matrix does not have panning)
The PC hosting RME MADI FX is in a different room than the A32PRO.

As a result, I am trying to use RME remote on a surface to control mix inside an A32.

What I have figured out is that to get remote software started, I had to add an exception to windows defender for the software.
I am able to get the remote software to actually start, but it displays a message of "no access"

What do I do to remove the "no access" problem?

Re: Remote setup

Totalmix Remote does not add any controls that aren't accessible via Totalmix on your computer. What exactly do you think is missing, and where? Are you only looking at the Matrix view, not the mixer view?

Re: Remote setup

Did you activate the host server, on the computer where the MADI FX is in?

Afaik, the "no access" message appears on the Remote if user management is enabled on host and:
- no entry (user, pass, rights, submix) is set on host.
or:
- an entry is set on host, but the Remote has either wrong credentials set in "User Authentication" settings or the checkbox "Disable User Authentication" checkbox is enabled.

Re: Remote setup

Follow up/feedback.

The main problem I was having was: I needed to add an exception to windows defender to allow the software connection. That one cost me four hours to figure out.

Now I have all kinds of new questions.
1. There appears to not be any panning available if I try to control routing internal on an A32PRO. Total mix must be used to gain panning control from mono inputs to a stereo output. Is this right, or did I miss something.
2. I have signals routed to both RED and BLUE headphone outputs. The Blue headphone output supplies a signal to headphones, the Red does not, no Idea why other than it's possible I blew the output wile nothing was hooked up. Red set to channels 31/32 and Blue set to channels 29/30. In both cases, no signal is going to the outputs, just the blue headphones. The headphone outputs are not near loud enough, I plan to use a little labs monitor to power headphones better (Using ultra phones for isolation)
Note: Trying to place/mix mic's on a drum set working by myself.
3. Using remote control total mix on an MS surface. Can I also use regular total mix at the same time on the MS surface to run a Baby face Pro?
4. My system is running at 96K sample rate. When a software input is at another sample rate (say you tube), how is the conversion/sample rate managed?

5. What should the routing matrix inside an A32 pro look like when I want to rout all 32 inputs to two outputs? If I set to the common diagonal pattern in the matrix, I have a feedback loop. Might try resetting the A32 Pro or I have created a problem as a new user of Total mix. Suggestions?

Re: Remote setup

I needed to add an exception to windows defender to allow the software connection. That one cost me four hours to figure out.

By default:
Windows Firewall asks on networks marked as private if an app wants to accept incoming traffic.
It does not do this on networks marked as public.

Probably that was your 4 hours cost of time.

Regarding your questions: They seem to be very A32/OS specific. Why dont you try out this yourself?

Anyhow Maybe, I can help regarding question 3:
Never used a ms surface. So unsure if the win arm drivers are possible. But if you are able to install the drivers and TM on it, there should be no problem running the Remote communicating with another host and running a local TM instance on the same machine(where your BF might be connected to).
BUT: Running the remote on the same host and connecting it to a local TM instance (localhost) will NOT work(and makes no sense).

Re: Remote setup

I have two PC's for the Audio setup. Creation station w/ MADI FX, and a newer MS surface.
I have the following list of converters: A32Pro, QS8, SSL alpha link, Baby face pro, Mixpre6, Burl B2 AD & DA.

The drums are in a different room than than Creation station that is the center of MADI word using Total mix.
I use the surface to remote control Total mix while at the drums. The only converters near the drums right now is the A32Pro. Mixpre6 gets used with time code to camera. The rest of the converters are near the MADI FX card.
I was considering setting up a Roli Synth next to the drums and control&D/A the synth from the suface using the Baby face. The surface would run total mix for two different Audio computers where I need it. Will be testing tonight.
