Topic: ADI-2 Pro FS R BE as a Switch

I recently purchased the ADI-2 Pro FS R BE to act as a switch in my system. I currenlty have the ADI-2 hooked up to  active Dutch & Dutch 8Cs digitial through the breakout AES connection. I have a HiFi Rose RS130 on the breakout AES input. By setting the ADI-2 to pass-through I've been able to listen music with no issues. My problem has been trying to listen to the TV. I currently have the ADI-2 analog XLR inputs hooked up to the XLR outputs of my JBL SDP-58. looking at the screen of the ADI-2, I can clearly see that the analog signal coming from the JBL is coming through. Setting the ADI-2 to Pre-amp and the Digital Out Source to both Main Out or Default isn't producing any sound. The center channel of th JBL SDP-58 is producing sound and I can also see the visiual cues from the ADI-2 display that sounds is coming through the XLR inputs. Why am I unable to hear any sound coming throught the AES outputs? Any help resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Re: ADI-2 Pro FS R BE as a Switch

I‘d try the following setting:

• SETUP / Options / Device Mode/DSD / Basic Mode: DAC
DAC-Mode is the most simplistic one, well suited for your purpose.

• SETUP / Options / Device Mode/DSD / Dig. Out Source: Main Out
Now the digital out follows the main out 1/2, with DSP and volume control.
• Set 1/2 Volume to 0 dB if you don’t use the DSP and want to control it elsewhere.

• I/O / Line Output 1/2 / Settings / Auto Ref Level: OFF
(As you don’t use the analog out 1/2, Auto Ref Level would confuse the volume control of the digital out.)

With this settings, it’s be possible to select the global input (commonly for all outputs) with the IR Remote, or on device at:
• I/O / Line Output 1/2 / Settings / AD/DA source: [(Auto), AES, SPDIF coax, Optical, Analog, USB].

All the settings can be done with the RME ADI-2 Remote app either.

I appreciate your quick reply. For some reason the issue is still not resolved. As previously mentioned, I'm having no issues with AES input to AES output. I'm still having trouble with XLR input to AES output. The Level Meter is showing the analog input is receiving a signal but it's not showing that AES output is receiving that signal. It's identical to the Analyzer. There is zero activity being detected on the AES line out (Main Out). What could possibly be the issue?

Re: ADI-2 Pro FS R BE as a Switch

What exactly does "AES line out (Main Out)" refer to and what is connected there?

Re: ADI-2 Pro FS R BE as a Switch

What sampling rate do you use in the case with AES input to AES output?
Have you tried different sample rates with the analog input?

Perhaps:
https://support.dutchdutch.com/8c-aes3-input/

Using AES3 with your 8c's

There are multiple ways to connect AES3 or S/PDIF sources to your 8c's. Below are supported setups. The 8c up to serial number 2000 supports PCM up to 96 khz / 24 bits on its digital AES3 input, serial numbers above 2000 supports PCM up to 192 khz / 24 bits on its digital AES3 input.

17.2 Preamp
Preamp: Analog in to Analog out (internal digital routing).
...
Default sample rate in this mode is 192 kHz, which represents the optimum in fully available DSP power and superior sonic transparency. Changing the sample rate manually is possible and the new value will be remembered.

Did you actually select the analog input as your source for output 1/2?

Re: ADI-2 Pro FS R BE as a Switch

My guess, you skipped some of the suggested settings, specially missed:

• I/O / Line Output 1/2 / Settings / AD/DA source: [(Auto), AES, SPDIF coax, Optical, Analog, USB].

The Main Output 1/2 is using the AES output.

Actually, I didn't miss that part. I set the source to Auto. I guess I misunderstood your directions.

This is not what I was asking. I was asking if you in fact had "Analog" selected as the input source for output 1/2 (both analog and digital in your case).

Not sure what that means. Are you confusing AES and XLR perhaps? Maybe you could make a quick diagram of what exactly is connected where.

With AD/DA source set to “Auto”, ADI-2 looks for an existing signal at it’s inputs and chooses the source in order of priority:

USB, the digital inputs AES, Coax, Optical, and only if non of these are active, the analog input.

For automatic input switching to happen, you would need to power off all USB/digital devices connected that are not in use - possible, but not too nice to handle I guess.

As you intend to use ADI-2 as switch, manually selecting the desired input quasi is mandatory.
Only in DAC Mode the IR Remote’s dedicated buttons can conveniently do this, one reason I suggested the mentioned settings.

Re: ADI-2 Pro FS R BE as a Switch

I figured it out. Thank you for all of the help.
