Topic: Hardware controller for TotalMix FX in 2025

Hi,

Currently looking into hardware controllers for TM FX, ideally with motorized faders and as compatible as possible with the software. Would be even better if I could plug it directly to audio interface and bypass the software, but I know all functions arent available this way. The goal would be to use my FireFace UFX II and Ferrofish Pulse 16 as a hands on mixer to control volume and send instruments to FX channels (using dedicated outputs with TM FX sub mixes). In other words, control what can be controlled by a regular mixer. I dont necessarily want to control all parameters, but at least volumes in main and sub mixes, maybe select snapshots, etc.

Has any one here settled on a specific gear for this sort of use case? I found some threads but many of them are starting to get old and compatibility of functionalities isn't really detailed.

(Not interested in the iPad solution)

Also, has RME ever considered making its own hardware controller for TotalMix FX?
With maybe a 8 motorized faders base device with transport and functions mapped, and an 8 faders expansion block in order to be modular and scale up as much as one would want.

Thanks

Thanks

Behringer seems to be the only one that comes with 8-fader-expansion modular system.

SSL and Presonus has fix 8 or 16 channel devices

Those need connection to the computer afaik.

The UFX ll has a remote socket for the ARC USB.
The ARC can load snapshots.

I would first try the ARC and if that is not sufficient try next step.

Thanks, yes the Behringer x touch is the #1 device I'm currently looking at. But it seem to be out of stock in many retailers, which makes me wonder if a new version will be coming soon. It's 10+ years old after all.

Curious to know if anyone has experience with it (or any other) and TotalMix, and opinions about connecting a hardware DAW controller to the particular workflow of TotalMix.

It is only ten years old (Totalmix has 25) and is sold out ? It is a runner. They will sell it further.

And what about iCon Platform M+, or other controllers by iCon?

Dunno, they seem to have a higher price point for similar features. Also read a good amount of negative reviews on their software, maybe it got better since. But all these controllers are almost always out of stock, really weird.

In every music store you can ask for it. Tell them you want try before buy, there is a good chance they can organize a showroom unit for testing.

Or a curve ball, try an iPad and Totalmix remote. This will definitely have access to all functions unlike any Mackie Control device which misses access to many functions…
