Topic: RME Total mix and Ableton live

Hey guys , so my setup is Rme Digiface usb and Ferrofish 16.
One of this days a friend came into my studio and we were playing in the modular and as i have no fx we opened a channel in Ableton  with fx. As we did that and turned Monitor IN we started to hear the sound as doubled.
I'm pretty sure this is caused by Total Mix because it hears everything that comes in.

I didn't want to mess with Total Mix as I config it a long time ago and fear to mess with it.

If someone here produces music and uses a similar setup, how can it be solved ?
This way I can put fx in Ableton tracks and immediately hear the results before printing it, then do this as post-processing.

Thanks in advance _:)

Re: RME Total mix and Ableton live

So my guess is you were direct monitoring through the interface and not your DAW. As soon as you enabled a channel in the DAW to use effects and be monitored you were then hearing it twice. In TotalMix you need to select the output going to your monitors/headphones (however you are listening) and then pull down the input slider for the input that is doubling. Doing this won’t turn down what is being presented to the DAW. You will need to turn back up again though if you want to direct monitor. Especially if latency is too much meaning you get a delay.

Babyface Pro Fs, Behringer ADA8200, win 11 PCs, Cubase/Wavelab, Adam A7X monitors.

Just turn the fader down in Total Mix and it all working.
Guess I was just afraid of messing up my configuration but it was pretty simple.
Many thanks smile

Re: RME Total mix and Ableton live

Good that you found it.

BTW, whats very helpful to check your routing in terms of monitoring:
1. ensure you are in submix mode (upper right, blue area)
2. select the Hardware Output for monitoring
3. click to the button sub on the right side of TM FX (at Layout Presets)

Then you only see those HW inputs (top row) and SW playbacks (middle row, audio from computer/DAW)
that route into selected HW Output (aka "submix").

Blog Article about saving and restoring the TM FX workspace / config

I assume, if you are anxious to mess up your settings, then you do not seem to use Workspaces and Quick Workspace Select
to backup / restore your setup (TM FX routing, window position, etc).

I can change whatever I want (to try) and bring the previous state back using the key combination ALT-1
to restore the first Workspace Quick Select config (from in total 30 Quick Workspace Select Slots).

I wrote a blog article about that topic which could be of good help to you, to get more "safety" in, so that you can try new things in a more relaxed way. As the restore can be achieved in below 1 second by using a key combination ALT-n (n=1..9).

I hope this helps additionally for much easier stress free operation.
