Topic: strange behaviour when switching samplerate (AVB)

Hi there

Yesterday, after updating the Digiface AVB, the drivers and the M32 Pro II to the newest Firmwares and drivers, I failed in switching the samplerates via the RME AVB Controller software as well as via the web interface of the M32 Pro II and the M1610 as I was doing it till then...

The new changed samplerate was displayed correctly in the displays and web interfaces, but the streams did not change the samplerate automatically like before. after now two days of un- and re-installing drivers, and trying different approaches, I found a way to switch the samplerates, but it is quite uncomfortable and needs a lot of "work":

After I changed the samplerates of all devices in the Controller app/software, I need to open the webinterface, then selecting the output avb streams, click on settings, and manually update the streams. Then for the input streams, I need to select the Digiface AVB in the controller app, stop it, then I can update the Input streams in the web interface, and restart the Digaface again.

Before the updates, all of this was not needed to do to change the samplerate, maybe it was done automatically in the background, but now I need to do all of these steps manually.

Is this a bug in the new drivers or firmware? Maybe you can find a solution, knowing this, to fix it...
Does anybody have also discovered this behaviour?
Aah, a side-note, this only happens to AAF (Milan) streams, the AM824 streams work just fine, and change the samplerates immediately without updating them manually.

And for all that have the same problem like me, this can be an info how to manage to change the samplerates in an AVB setup.

P.S. Driver and Firmware versions:
Digiface AVB Hardware 268
Driver Version 1.02 Date 04/30/25
M32 Pro II AVB Firmware 3.0.7
M1610 Pro Firmware 3.0.6

Re: strange behaviour when switching samplerate (AVB)

Hi!

In short - it is not a bug, it was a required change to comply with MILAN requirements.

Have you tried to use the MILAN Manager to change the sampling rate? It makes changing the sampling rate easier by automating the steps you describe - you can select the sampling rate from a drop down menu and the Manager attempts to do this configuration. You must however set up the Digiface AVB in a MILAN-compatible way (which mostly means making either the first or the last stream a CRF stream in the configuration).

Please give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

Hi Max

Thank you for the infos and the link, checking that out, and will let you know, if it works for me

Re: strange behaviour when switching samplerate (AVB)

Hi Max

First, sorry for the delay, holidays with the family and lot of work outside the studio...

So I now finally had a bit of time fiddeling around with the Milan Manager. It is quite different from the workflow I was used from the RME software, so it needs a little work and get familiar with the gui and routing possibilities...

in my oppinion, as I am used to the Rme software, this is a bit faster and easier to use, but with some time, the Milan manager also works.

Now for the "Problem" with changing the samplerate:

Milan Manager does not like the M1610 Pro, as if that one is on, samplerates and stream-samplerates get totally screwed up, also it deletes the routings to and from the M1610. I then need to update the streams and redo the routing.
When the M32 II DA is alone in the network, changing samplerates works so far, but it seems the Manager does not like 44.1 samplerates. It changes the units aamplerate and the streams to 44.1 (or 88.2 or 176.4), but not the AVB CRF stream. I need to initialise/update that stream manually in the web-gui. All other samplerates based on 48 kHz do work just fine.

So when the M1610 is on, I better use the method described in my 1st post...
