Topic: Expanding UFX2 with M32 Pro for outboard gear use as DAW INSERT.

So I need more I/O lines in my Pro Tools setup to use them as outboard gear INSERTs on tracks.
I got a HDSPe MADI FX card and hope to use this to communicate with an M32-Pro.

But I simply cannot wrap my head around the signal flow. the internal DAW I/O setup must be told what to listen for. WHere is the signal coming in and where does it go out in its round trip. I have currently maxed out my I/O lines as stereo outboard gear eats them up fast.

Now.

The M32 will recieve its signal from the outboard out.
Outboard Out -> RME DTox16 Patch Bay IN -> D-sub cable -> M32 IN-> Madi cable -> Pcie > Pro Tools.

But how does the signal flow back to the outboard unit via the M32? I mean, I need more both ins and outs here and I dont see any OUT on the M32 ?

There are two versions of the M32, one for AD, one for DA. If you want 32 channels in and out, you need both...

What converter do you have exactly?
The new product line of converters is called M-32 Pro II.
But also the M-32 Pro (previous model) was only available either as a pure AD converter or as a pure DA converter.
So.. To get AD and DA, you need to get two devices.

If you want to avoid that, you have the possibility to get the new M-1620 Pro, which is an AD/DA converter with 16 inputs and outputs.

Well two M32's (and two obligatory patch bays) is for sure not a viable option on my budget. I will look into the M-1620 Pro. Thanks.

Only +20 dBu max input level and no BTO possible for +24 dBu for all of their A32 Pro models.
See overview: https://www.ferrofish.com/ferrofish-ad- … omparison/

RME M-1620 Pro is IMHO the better choice, as it supports studio levels up to +24 dBu.

I have this one (with+24dbu) with a madiface pro and it works very well  - channel count to price is excellent 2nd hand And there is the software "globcon" to control and patch the andiamo - you should have a closer look ...
