I finally got someone to help me via a screenshare, but I wanted to report that people using a screen reader are unable to register for the forums without help.
The problem is the image with the question you're supposed to answer.
There are alternatives to this; reCAPTCHA for example provides an audio option, which unfortunately does exclude people who are hard of hearing or in a noisy environment, but it's a vague step forward. Another option might be Cloudflare's turnstyle.
