Topic: No UI showing in AVB Controller

Hello,

I'm having some trouble with the AVB Controller App. The UI is not loading, it's a completely blank screen. My Digiface AVB is running firmware v270 and Driver v4.27 is installed. I have the same issue on two separate computers - MacBook Pro M2 Pro running Tahoe and Mac Mini M4 Pro running Sequoia.

Fireface USB settings shows it correctly, all pre-existing network connections are passing audio correctly as signals appear in Totalmix, but I'm locked to the current network settings and can't change anything without the AVB Controller UI showing up.

Can anyone suggest a fix? I've reinstalled multiple times and followed all the permissions guides which all appear to be correct.

Thanks,

Isa

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

Which RME AVB Cntroller version are you running? Network cable is plugged into the DF AVB?

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

On both machines, AVB Controller is on v0.9909. Yes, network cable is connected to the DF AVB and is passing audio between the DF AVB and my two 12Mics normally, just within the confines of the current settings that it's essentially stuck on.

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

I'm having the same issue I believe - MacOS Tahoe 26.2 - same versions of everything else (DF AVB v270, Driver 4.27, AVB controller 0.9909) - I updated to Tahoe yesterday - was actually able to update all the RME software / firmware and it worked initially but after booting this morning, AVB controller does not load correctly - keeps "going blank" and none of the devices show any configured streams in their control panel for the brief moment that they do appear and my AVB tool never sees the controller, never gets sync. no streams appear. System worked since I first configured it with the latest software / firmware about a year ago - after the update, I'm able to browse to the AVB tool because of the class compliant network driver, but for whatever reason the AVB controller isn't working today - about to try uninstalling / re-installing everything

UPDATE - same situation after trying to remove and re-install everything except I did see an error message in AVB Controller that mentioned something about not being able to access the network and asking me to make sure I was running firmware > 268 on the digiface

This sounds similar but I think slightly different, in that all my other devices' streams are showing and working correctly still. So 2x 12mics and AVB Tool have all the right input/output streams & syncs etc, I just can't change anything DF AVB-related as the controller is totally blank.

Also I have this behaviour on Sequoia as well as Tahoe so I don't think it's OS related. It's all worked without issue for 4 years, until my last update to the latest firmware / drivers a month or so ago (only just getting round to troubleshooting now).

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

If this is the issue I saw on Mac before, try this: choose Entity from the Options menu (top bar) for the RME AVB controller app, then select Configurations from that entity menu.

I'm not sure what it was - could not get it back to functioning on the mac mini - i had a dev network setup here and was sharing the avb tool and m32da i/o via totalmix with the DF AVB on the mac mini and a couple of windows pc's using Biamp hardware - worked reliably for the past year - I just swapped it around and connected the DF AVB to one of the PC's and I'm using apple's built-in AVB support to stream from the mac to the pc now - I'll probably leave it like this for the time being.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly not the answer - Entity > Configurations seems to have no response at all (all other Entity menu options do open windows with limited options / stuff missing).

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

The RME AVB controller app (under mac OS) has an option to be disabled. You can activate the controller by the menu "RME AVB Controller - Stop -> Start" or disable it by "RME AVB Controller - Start -> Stop". This option is usefull if you want to use another avb controller app, example: Hive. The AVB Endpoint ist still running in the background even if the controller is stopped.

Ohhh I wasn't aware of this setting - this has fixed it!! Everything is showing up again as normal. Many thanks for your help.

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

That would be a bug on our side - obviously this setting should default to 'Start'. We'll try to find out when it doesn't.

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

After reinstalling everything RME related on a mac with Tahoe 26.4.1 this issue still persists for me.
The Digiface has Firmware v272 and is connected to a network.
Driver installed is v4.27 and all permissions are granted.
AVB Controller version is 0.9914

The AVB Controller window stays empty unimpressed of what I try (Reload, Stop/Start, adjust the entity, etc) but notices if I unplug the device from usb.

If I try to set the stream format AVB Controller crashes.

What else could I try?

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

Did you Connect a Network Cable to an AVB Switch?
How do you set the format if there is no UI?

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

Out of curious I did a test, not having any AVB devices, but downloaded this controller app and it does exactly what OP describes above, no UI and it crashes when format setting changes, format setting from menu, the menu is accessible.
The app itself is an empty field. (no surprise as there is no AVB device)
Has OP forgot to connect AVB device to the computer ?

Someone may think the RME AVB controller app is a standalone software for Mac built-in AVB ?

Yes, the device was connected to a AVB switch.

The AVB Controller window is empty (no UI) but in the menu-bar I can choose "Entity" -> "Stream Format..." or "Digiface" -> "Configure...".

Without a device connected the window says (usb device not connected) in the title-bar.

The device was connected when I tried. Disconnecting it and reconnecting it got detected by the AVB Controller. It also got recognized in "Fireface USB Settings".

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

The function "Entity -> Stream Format" should not be available when an usb devce is not connected.

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

From the headline of the main window I conclude that you are not useing the lastet version 0.9914. But you did find a minor bug: the dialog should not open if there is no device available or connected.

Re: No UI showing in AVB Controller

Yes it was 9574, I redownloaded the AVB package and now it is on 9914, same behavior of course,
