Topic: Fireface 800 in standalone mode or as a slave to a Fireface 802

Hey geeks,

I dug out my "old" FireWire 800 to connect it as a slave to my Fireface 802.

Obviously, I'm not getting it to work completely. I can get inputs 1, 7, and 8 working, but nothing else.
I made two explanatory videos:

If anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it smile

Re: Fireface 800 in standalone mode or as a slave to a Fireface 802

Request two screenshots
Each from Totalmix Matrix from both Totalmix.
As you can transfer some audio, it should be possible to transfer all 8 channels.
I think Totalmix routing is not yet correct.
The matrix screenshots will show.

Re: Fireface 800 in standalone mode or as a slave to a Fireface 802

Make Total Reset in both Totalmix

Totalmix menu Options / Reset Mix / Total Reset

Make the routing in FF800 as this screenshot looks like :

In the FF802 the routing is up to you.
Receiving signals from the analog inputs of the Ff800 don't need routing, the signals arrive on the Adat inputs in the FF802.
To the FF800 analog outputs you can send what you want, may be the Software playback channels 1 to 16 ?

This would be as this screenshot looks like :

Re: Fireface 800 in standalone mode or as a slave to a Fireface 802

How are the driver settings for clock ?
Is the FF800 set to clock-mode internal 44,1 or 48 kHz ? (it should)
and the FF 802 is set clock-mode external optical input, right ?

Also for a test I would connect the FF800 to the computer and check if the inputs are working correctly.
Was the internal power unit ever replaced ? can be a dying power unit.

Re: Fireface 800 in standalone mode or as a slave to a Fireface 802

Yes, i have already change the internal power but all imputs of the firewire 800 works fine when i connect a microphone or a guitar. There are just its input 1, 7 and 8 which goes well into my fireface 802. There are connected by opticals cables in ADAT 1.
The clock is sync and at 44.1 khz.

Sure there is no Loopback activated in Totalmix ?

Re: Fireface 800 in standalone mode or as a slave to a Fireface 802

These videos are quite messy and it's difficult to really see anything... And it's not clear what exactly isn't working as expected. Is there an issue with channels 2-6 or with 9 and above? One ADAT cable only supports 8 channels, so if you just route channels diagonally in the matrix, channel 9 will end up on the second ADAT output, which does not seem to be connected.

Please also provide a screenshot of Totalmix on the FF 800 with signal connected.

Yes i understand, sorry.

I expected to use all the fireface 800 channels inputs in slave but i receive just the input 7 and 8 on my fireface 802.

One ADAT cable only supports 8 channels, so if you just route channels diagonally in the matrix, channel 9 will end up on the second ADAT output, which does not seem to be connected.

thanks for the tips !

I guess it's a misunderstood of the matrix fonctionnality from mine.
This is the matrix of both :
