Topic: trouble with MIDI control

Trying to control the main volume  fader in Totalmix with a Presonus Faderport ( single, v1).  I cannot get it to work. I see that it is sending on Ch 1 but there is no setting in Totalmix to choose a channel. The unit is HUI compatible, I am not sure if that helps my situation. Any help appreciatted

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Some more details would be helpful, what interface is this ? Which output channel is assigned to main-out ?
Is any fader in Totalmix reacting to the faderport fader ?
Is midi control ON in Totalmix Options ?

Re: trouble with MIDI control

This is for the UFX I output channel 3/4.  None of the faders respond. MIDI control is Enabled and the Faderport is chosen as input and output.

I just discovered this morning a hidden setting in the Faderport and it is now set to Mackie control, but still none of the  faders are responding. I have Enable Protocol Support chosen and none of the other settings are chosen under Mackie Control Options

EDIT:

I changed a setting in Ableton Live for the Control Surface from MackieControl  to MackieControl Classic. And now in Totalmix the fader for Input Ch 3/4 is moving within the Main mix AN 3/4. Strange!

Re: trouble with MIDI control

May be you have to scroll thru banks to get to the outputs, are there left/right arrow keys ? Try right arrow a few times ( 8 x)

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Thank you that worked! Choosing the output button assigned it to Totalmix's Main fader. Problem is Totalmix is not receiving the info when I move the Faderport fader, it only works vice versa when i control the hardware fader from the Totalmix fader.

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Isn't there different mackie-control modes ? Check out all different modes, MCU

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Very weird behavior! I succeeded in two way communication in Totalmix when Ableton Live was open and set to MackieControl instead of Classic. It did not work in Ableton but did work in Totalmix. But when I close Ableton, only one-way communication is working in Totalmix. Do I have to spend another $200 to buy an ARC USB?

Edit: in Studio One it works like a charm, two-way communication without trying ( so this is a Totalmix problem?) and also Totalmix has one-way communication.  But when I closed Studio One, ALL communication is lost  between Totalmix and the controller until I reboot the controller

Unclear what you do -  how you set up Midi in TM, in your environment and what is connected how to what.

"Another" $200? If you really spent $200 for a legacy FaderPort Classic (afaik, its from 2008), you paid to much...

Sure, asthe DAW is optimized for StudioOne Classic (same manufacturer)...

so this is a Totalmix problem?

No. TM works exactly as described in your (RME)unit's manual. The features described there work flawlessly with all MCU(MCP) Proto capable controllers.

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Hello, I have a similar problem. Yesterday, it worked and today, for no reason, it doesn't work :

I use a FaderPort8 (Presonus) as a DAW controller or as a TM controller. It works as before for my DAW but in the settings of TM, the Faderport8 is not recognized anymore as well as my other controllers (Keystation61 from M-Audio). I only have "None" for MIDI In and "None" and "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" for MIDI Out. It's only in TM.

I use a Fireface UC. I updated drivers to 1.276 in case of but no change.

Any help please ?

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Have you tried reinstalling the driver? What's the Windows version here? Were there any updates overnight?

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Ok, after the third reboot, it works again. No update of Windows 11 Pro x64 overnight. Mysterious but solved. Thanks.

What do you mean ?

It's not completly solved in fact.

I have to reboot once yesterday and this morning so the Fireface sees the MIDI devices.

Re: trouble with MIDI control

If you have Windows 11 update KB5077181 it has installed a new midi stack, with midi 2. It can cause some issues as you describe. There are some posts about it on the cubase forum, with input from Pete frome microsoft. https://forums.steinberg.net/t/cb15-fre … ialisation

Re: trouble with MIDI control

I have the update KB5077181 but it has been installed the 11th of february and it has stopped to work with the Fireface UC 2 days ago. It works with DAW or other softwares.

In order to make it works, I have to start my computer, turn on Fireface and Faderport8, and reboot... not really convenient.

I uninstalled drivers and reinstalled them but the problem is still there. I have 2 entries I can't remove in Installed Applications (see screenshot). There is an error when I want to uninstall them (2nd screenshot). Is there a way to do a clean uninstallation ?

To be clear, it has stopped to work with no reason (no Windows update or drivers). I did the update to drivers 1.276 and a Windows update (KB5077241) after it has stopped to work thinking it could solve the problem.

I did another test. If I turn on Fireface and Faderport8 before starting the computer, it works. Otherwise, I have to reboot it.

Other thing, if I exit TotalMix and I launch it again by clicking on TotalMixFX_x64.exe in Programs/RME/Fireface, it works. At least more convenient than a reboot but it will be better if it could work as before.

Re: trouble with MIDI control

Still I would uninstall KB5077181 if it fixes it you know the cause. MS will update midi 2 later to fix it.
