Topic: Madiface XT II + ADI 2 Pro … how to connect

Hi,
As owner of ADI 2 Pro I’m going to get MADIFACE XT II and am I right with this type of connection?
From Madiface with RME BO-968 AES/EBU cable (9-pin connector to 2 XLR conectors) to another RME BO-968 AES/EBU cable (female XLR to male XLR and male to female ) and then with 9-pin connector to ADI 2 Pro …
Will it works ?
I want work under 88/96 kHz …
Second unit  which I want to connect to Madiface is Ferrofish 32Pro via madi cable ….
In future I’m planning to get another A32Pro for more in/out channels, so that’s the reason, why I want to get Madiface XT II.
Thanks for help…
Tomas

Re: Madiface XT II + ADI 2 Pro … how to connect

Hi Tomas, welcome to the RME user forum.

Both devices have AES I/O, so, where is the problem? wink
Connect AES OUT with AES IN on the other device; that's it.
Configure the XT II as clock master and the ADI-2 Pro FS as clock slave (receiving clock from AES in).

If the devices are standing close to each other, you can simply connect the plugs of the breakout cables.
Otherwise, use a digital cable with 110 ohms.
Mic cables also work on short distances, which has been mentioned several times in the forum.

Regarding the Ferrofish, no problem.
You only need to choose the proper multimode cables.

Also, information about what's best to choose, either one A32 Pro or maybe better, two Pulse 16 MXs.

Yes
I know , that both units(ADI 2 Pro and Madiface XT II) have AES/EBU 9pin connector on rear panel , so thats the reason for using 2 cables RME BO-968 AES/EBU … I did’nt find any cable with 9-pin connector on both sides …
Thanks for reply …
Can I ask , why is 2 Pulse 16MXs better choice than A32Pro ? Im ok with db25 ….and I am very satisfate with my current A32Pro ….

Well, its all in the two postings, that I quoted.... again:

- Unit price
Two Ferro Pulse 16MX are less expensive compared to one A32 Pro
  2x 949 € = 1898 € vs 2499 € for the A32 Pro

- Price for breakout cables or consoles
You do not need a breakout console which also costs additional money and needs additional space.
   https://www.thomann.de/de/rme_dtox_16_i.htm   339 €
   https://www.thomann.de/de/rme_dtox_16_o.htm  301 €
   For 32 channels in and out: 340 € * 2 = 680 €
Plus additionally the connector cables for that.

As it cost money and 2 rack units per device some people prefer direct connection to the unit using TRS plugs.
Some other people prefer to connect two devices with DB-25 connectors by using such a "tascam cable"

There are also analog breakout cables available with DB-25 plugs, but I am not so fond of
such breakout cables with a lot of channels.

- Solid connections
TRS cables are fine, but XLR plugs have the advantage to lock when connected properly.

- Placement
You can place two Pulse 16 MX at different locations in a rack or in a room
Then you can keep the more expensive copper cabling shorter
Using OM4 fiber cable you are very flexible in terms of cable length. Up to 2 km between two devices
and you can chain the devices in a serial fashion.

You need to look whats your preference and what gives you most advantages.
