Topic: Overload message on the ADI-2 Pro

I’m using an ADI-2 Pro FS R BE converter with MM-500 planar headphones.
Normally, when I use the NT-RME-2 adapter, I often get a static-discharge-like crack noise when I touch the earcups of the MM-500, as well as a hum noise that feels like leakage current.

This time, as soon as I touched the headphones, this message appeared.

Overload / Short detected
PH 3/4 deactivated. Pull out PH plug 3/4 to reset output state.

Could it be that a strong static-discharge energy or hum noise energy triggered this message?
If so, is it possible that minor damage may have gradually accumulated in either the converter or the headphones?

thank you.

Re: Overload message on the ADI-2 Pro

Has the overload message been a one time event, or does it come up again?
If yes, the static discharge may indeed have broken.ADI-2.
If not, not a big deal to worry about.

Maybe, check where the static arises from, usually new carpets or new shoes.
Subjecting electronics to strong static discharge isn’t the best thing to do.
There are antistatic sprays that can be applied to the floor to remove the problem, e.g. “Licron Crystal”:

Regarding the hum sound:
This is a typical AUDEZE (and some other planars) phenomenon, their headphones don’t like to be used on a non-grounded system.
Switching to a semi grounded RME power supply solves it.

The new version of it with soft ground is also available at Thomann and costs again half the price:
