Topic: CC - Class compliant or complaint? ;) #socialmedia

As many of RME devices are class compliant, I thought I can skip the long-lasting (and quite boring) "replace audio in video" procedure and use Digiface USB to post some instastories from the studio with the video from my Android phone (Xiaomi 13 Pro) and HQ audio playing with my main studio interface (which is UFX+).

So I connected the ADATs (2 optical cables to Digiface ADAT1 i/o and UFX ADAT2 i/o), flash my Digiface USB with CC software (CC 2 version). I've used the good quality USB-C - USB-B cable (but 5m) to connect it to my:

  • Xiaomi 13 Pro. Unfortunately I got issues:

    1. All the apps mixes the sound to mono (Blackmagic Camera, system Camera, system Recorder). Cubasis LE 3 sees Digiface but won't record anything.

    2. I can't get any audio from the Xiaomi via Digiface.

    3. The clock source looks like it is set to internal even if I set it to Input 1 (ADAT1) before flashing.

    4. I could get undistorted (nice sounding) sinus with system Camera app, but with maaaany dropouts.

  • iPad Pro 12.9 3gen:

    1. I got the stereo signal!

    2. iPad could send audio through Digiface!

    3. the sinus was distorted comparing to the one macbook was getting.

    4. Digiface wants to be master clock sad

  • Macbook M1 Max (still using CC mode) :

    1. twodirectional audio works OK

    2. sinus is OK (with one glitch, might be because of the clock)

    3. Digiface wants to be master clock sad

I've uploaded my Reaper session with test signal and its recordings to https://pliki.lukowastudio.com/20260406rmecc/. (Yes, there are 44 and 48 kHz, I switched it to diagnose it better, also some apps converted the sample rate automatically without asking.)

Has anyone succeeded with similar setup? Any tips?

Make the UFX+ be clock-mode external optical and let the Digiface USB be clock-mode internal.

Why should the Digiface not be master clock ? There is nothing wrong with that.

The Xiaomi I would not use this way, I would transfer all video and audio fils to a computer and work in the DAW only.
Same for the iPad.

I would use the Digiface on the Macbook in normal mode

Also I would use a short USB cable, 5m can be critical.

Yes, I can change the master clock when working in Reaper (as Reaper can resample on the fly). However this might be complicated in other DAWs/Dorico.

But that's the main reason! Look - if I want to post some (for example) music production work, I need to:

  1. record the video with Xiaomi (with crappy mic sound), then

  2. upload it to PC, then

  3. drag it to the Reaper session and

  4. synchronize it with the session audio,

  5. turn down the video volume,

  6. export as video (with unnecessary video re-encoding or more steps to replace the audio without video re-encoding), then

  7. upload it back to Xiaomi, then

  8. share it as the instagram story.

If I could record the video on Xiaomi with the final sound, I can

  1. use only the instagram app to record the video and it's ready to go (OK, I can use the system camera recorder, as the instagram app probably records mono sound; still 6 steps less).

Of course, I tried Macbook just for comparison.

Yes, I checked the 1m cable with Xiaomi and iPad - the sinus started to sound properly! So the only problems are for now:

  1. Xiaomi mixing all the inputs to stereo=dualmono.

  2. Still some audible drops on the sinus test (even if the UFX+ is sync to Digiface and none of them blinks).

point 6 I use LogicPro for this, replace audio in video, very quick.
point 7 I'm not on Insta, but is it not possible to log in on the Mac and upload from there without a mobile phone ?

Influencers I know they work in the computer with DaVinci Resolve.

Then you have full control over the film production and get rid of mono audio from a mobile phone with limited features.

No, I don't want to use any video editing software. It's a major waste of time. I just want a premium quality sound on my mobile = CC mode working as it should (I understand that probably the problem is with the Android system or Xiaomi extensions).

Example - if I wanted to record something live - I don't know, playing live to youtube or any other track - I don't want to do all the recording and exporting stuff. I just want to record it into my mobile with the video at the same time...

Another example - if I want to record me playing a wurlitzer piano live, I don't want to use the computer (especially as it stays in the other room). I can just connect the wurlitzer or mic to UCX (which acts as a preamp and A/D), and UCX to my mobile.

As far as I understand, I need to buy the iOS phone for this?... ;P

I guess, you need any telephone/device that is able to record in stereo. Or find SW that enables you to record in stereo on your current telephone/device. If that is possible hardware/firmware wise.....

FF UCX II, Digiface USB, Babyface Pro FS

Android may or may not work, depends on the individual device and there is no guarantee or official support.
