Topic: HDSPe AoX-D's Dante Latency

Hi,

I want to know how low can AoX-D's Dante latency go, as far as I know that lowest Dante latency can be 0.25ms.

And if I only use it's MADI for hosting VST plugins during live gig, will it's latency go as low as HDSPe MADI? or is it noticeable compare to other MADI interface like MADIface or UFX+/III?

I have a UFX+ and I use it's MADI a lot during live gig for VST host, I want to know if I can have better or similar result by using PCIE card w/ enclosure. Currently want to use Echo Express SE III as enclosure.

Best,
Sean.

Is it on Mac or Windows ?

0,25 ms is very low latency, I think VST instruments on their own have more latency which can't get compensated by any driver.

I would ask the dealer for an option try before buy, may be you can take your computer to the store and make a test with measurement with the RTL utility software.

Hi Waedi,

Dante Latency is for Dante Network’s buffer, so I want it can go to the lowest setting that Dante can offer.

I’ll try to reach out to dealer in my country, thanks!

Re: HDSPe AoX-D's Dante Latency

I tested the latency from the AOX Madi vs a Madiface USB on a M1 MacMini. And the latency is almost equal. Actually the Madiface USB is a few microseconds faster. This due to extra safety buffers on the Thunderbolt connection in the MacOs. On a Windows machine you could gain some latency. The Dante latency comes on top of this Thunderbolt Latency.

Wow, never thought that MADIface USB's latency will be lower than AOX via Thunderbolt.
But a few microseconds is okay for me so it's not a big deal. I can have more channel using AOX.

BTW, I remember that AoX-D and AoX-M can't performing in standalone mode due to PCIE enclosure's power design right? If there's no computer connected to enclosure, it'll cut the power so can't operate in standalone mode?

Re: HDSPe AoX-D's Dante Latency

Standalone-mode would need a special firmware and Totalmix routing setup and driver settings stored in the card, this is not the case.
This interface is not designed for standalone operation.

It’s not really the case cause based on the reply in another topic, it’s because power issue and also didn’t have the ability to store the setting. But if I manage to keep it powered, will it keep the routing like kubrak said in the link I provided below?

https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=40246

And yeah I already asked the support, AoX-D’s Dante Latency can go to 0.25ms.

Re: HDSPe AoX-D's Dante Latency

The Kubrak-trick may work with the Digiface USB, but RME never confirmed this as supported operation.

You have to test your self with the AoX, I guess some routing can still work but Dante network not working without computer ?

Re: HDSPe AoX-D's Dante Latency

I'm gonna buy one and try it myself.

Dante Network can work standalone but will need to setup the routing first, using Dante controller or Console which have the ability to patching Dante devices.
