Topic: Totalmix 2.0, why so ugly?
Like the thread title says. Just installed it. Looks totally washed out. Serious lack of informative color. Installed 1.99, that's more like it!

Calibrate your display then. Adjust the gamma. And before complaining/trolling, always read the manual and/or check the settings. There are 8 (eight!) display modes, including two high-contrast. Just press <F2> and select one. On my calibrated NEC PA271Q all modes are legible enough.

Why so late ? Did you miss the entire beta testing phase ?
RME did a lot of changes and improvements in that time and a huge corrections due to customer inputs in the forum.
The outcome is very nice and the users are mostly happy, I think Unplugged is right, you may fine-tune your graphics-card settings.
Just one persons point of view. I like it.

Can you provide details about your system and monitor setup?
- OS version
- Laptop screen or separate monitor, which one? Which graphics card?
- Screen diagonal and resolution, ppi value
- Scaling active, or running at native resolution?
Also, in TotalMix FX Preferences -> Graphics -> Brightness correction, did you try switching to "High Contr."?
That might already solve or mitigate the issue.
Tip: If you are a Windows user and have a Full-HD monitor
- 1920 × 1080 (16:9) or
- 1920 × 1200 (16:10)
it helps to make the TotalMix FX window larger, especially vertically, to see more details.
Side note: Apple users most likely have no issues at all, because their monitor resolution is usually very high (4k, 5k)
which supports vector scaling additionally.
EDIT:
It might be useful if you could post two screenshots as an example, old design vs. new design.
You need to place the pictures on cloud storage and post the links here.
In case you have difficulties, then you can find an example/proposal here in my blog:

I personaly like more visuality of 1.99, but I like scalability of 2.0 and other improvements. And of course, those things are matter of taste.
And if one wants scalability, operation on wide range of displays, be it multiplatform and so on, the design must reflect that. So, it is as it is... Not so visualy cute (IMHO), but practical.
I would appreciate, if dials' indicators have a small tick mark at value (end of arc). I still firstly visually seek for a tick, then I realize that there is none and focuse on end of arc. And if it is a pan, I have to reason which end of arc is the value...
Simply, small tick marking the value at the end of arc would help me a lot... Old guys like me are used to marks, not to arcs... Pots have marks...
I even asked for this small modification. It would be simple. But it was either overlooked, or not accepted. :-(
Here's an example of how TM FX (old and new style) looks in my setup with a 24" Full-HD monitor (16:10, 1920x1200, 94 ppi).
The hardware:
- Grafic card: MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ventus 3X E 12G OC (V513-290R)
https://geizhals.de/msi-geforce-rtx-407 … 07580.html
- Monitor: Eizo FlexScan EV2457 (EV2457-BK)
https://geizhals.de/eizo-flexscan-ev245 … 86109.html
The monitor is calibrated for work in a not-too-lit room over the day, monitor brightness set to 83 to achieve 140 cd.
Don't get me wrong: I do not want to say by this that monitor calibration is needed; I only want to make my setup clear.
For TotalMix FX 2.01 I use Preferences -> Brightness Correction set to "High Contrast".
For 1.99* this is too much; there, I use "Normal" sometimes "Dark".

Here is some information about the calibration of my monitor, again, only to make my setup clear. I only need calibration for foto editing purposes at the recommended 120 cd, but of course I also use it for getting good colors when doing office work and related stuff.

And now a screenshot of TotalMix FX 2.01 with "High Contrast" enabled in Preferences.
I needed to make the window a little taller (vertically) this improved readability at 94ppi.

This is with the old bitmap based design, I used here
- Window -> "Toggle Old-New Design" and
- Preferences "Normal" contrast

The older design is visually more pleasing (IMHO). It has 3D feel and so on. But, yes, new one is more practical. But.... If faders are 3D even in new design, the knobs could be as well...
Immediate fan of the new layout here, what does it for me is the channel colouring, previously only visible in the channel name, now the whole strip gets a subtle soft color, which is much more convenient in FOH situations (yes, eagerly waiting and hoping for the remote total mix's to go this way obviously).
Where nothing beats a motorised fader apparatus I stil guess this is along the line of nothing beats a fixed lan line (spoiler: alert touch screen smartphone does).
Lets go for the FOH.
Despite the resizeability and high contrast options, I cannot get used to it. It's just difficult to look at and decipher, even compared to 1.99. So i agree with the "troll".
I like the new much better as a new comer.. It is more in line with modern DAW design if you look at Cubase, Logic, etc.
Overall, it reflects general UI design across all software. Developers loved creating 3d'ish interfaces as computer GFX, screen resolutions, and colour numbers increased... a sort of "we can do this so we're going to do this" tech development phenomena... But it's outdated now and sort of tacky looking back.
But users who have been using the software for a long time tend to dislike GUI changes... If you're a Cubase user who has participated on their forums for some time as I have... You'll know how heated things get... Almost every iteration of GUI change in Cubase was met with significant backlash... But it's funny because there was a hoard of people saying Cubase needed flatter UI - those people got what they wanted - and then a hoard of people appear complaining about the flatter GUI.
I think the new UI is much neater and feels less scattered. The older 3d version... there's just too much going on for the eye-brain... too much depth, too many lines, too much gradient, etc, etc.
All I need now.... is Dual Mono Stereo Control at the very least, and maybe some channel alignment sync options.............

The 3-D Graphics were looking very long in the tooth.
The new design is a nice step forward.
Thanks so much!
