Topic: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

Hello,

First things first: love the new TotalMix look & feel, though there is probably nothing more personal than that. Can't wait to have the TotalMix remote apps on iPad en OSx look the same.

My issue at hand is that I prepared a workspace on an offline device (chose UFX3) that I can't seem to load properly into my actual UFX3.
1. The first situation is that the TotalMix window just jumps back to the offline device in stead of loading it onto the physical one.
2. To work around this I edited the device name in the workspace file. After that it will load, but lots of stuf is not loaded like channel names or layout and color settings.

Is there something I missed or misunderstood, is there a workaround or is it something to be fixed?
Thanks,
Erik

Please provide more details about the setup. Also, can you document which settings are missing? Is that consistent over several attempts?

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

Happy to (and happy to discuss realtime if helpful)

- I am running TotalMix FX Version 2.01 (1)
- on a 2023 MacBook Pro (M2)
- with Tahoe 26.4.1 (25E253).
- My UFX3 is on firmware v20 Driver v4.27 (retested as I noticed I was on v4.09 still).
So all the most recent versions I think.

I created an offline device called ‘Fireface UFC III (UFX3mock)’ where I created snapshots, routing, groups and layouts. Stored this as a workspace ‘UFX3 Jukebox 25 jaar.tmws’. I then connected my actual Fireface UFX III (24207351) and tried to load the workspace file. In stead of loading the file TotalMix switches back to the offline device (as if I would have clicked it in the right top corner, but I didn’t. I did also try to load in a secondly created offline device but also there it switches the entire device back to the offline mock I created.

Perhaps of value:
- I noticed I was on Driver v4.09, so upgraded to 4.27 to see if that helped
- This reverted TotalMix FX back to 1.99
- But loading the (offline created) workspace file resulted in the same: TotalMix switches to the offline device as a result of loading and the real ufx is not changed
- Ps on the offline device I can see all the layout and routing I did, so despite being created in the 2.0 Totalmix it seems fine in 1.99
- Reinstalled TMInstaller_201.pkg (checked 2.01 version)
- But still same behaviour.

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

From user manual :

Note: Offline devices may cause interference due to double assignments. This can be avoided by
selecting the option Disable when device is offline for each individual offline device in the ARC
USB Settings under Usage of PC connected ARC USB.

You may try this...

Thanks waedi, tried that again and doesn't change anything.

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

Edit: please read post #12. The below was not correct.

Archived text: Offline devices are 'demo' devices. If you want to edit your UFX III state you need to load your UFX III from the top right, not the offline device. Even then, due to the missing hardware (top shows Disconnect) the resulting Workspace file after editiing might be incomplete. One should not rely on that as function. The main point here is the mentioned demo use and 'visual inspection of workspaces and snapshots' that have been saved with connected devices.

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

Hello Matthias,
I appreciate that. I was hoping that I could use the demo setup to roughly prepare for a gig without connecting to the physical UFX, later uploading and completing the config for actual use. I think I used it that way in the past, pre-2.0, but perhaps I am mistaking.
If such is the case that it is not ment for that I would suggest to make it impossible to save the workspace file for a demo device, as it suggests it could be uploaded later to an actual device. I did choose a connected UFX3 when uploading, but as stated it immediately switches TotalMix back to the demo device.
Appreciate the feedback.
Erik

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

Use the Totalmix 2 installer
it is a combo installer for TM2.01 or TM 1.991

Install Totalmix 1.991

Make a test

After finish of test reinstall TM 2.01 or stay with Totalmix 1.991

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

I would install 2.x and use the toggle functionality to toggle between bitmap and vector graphics (old and new design).

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

He claims the old version had other ability for loading workspace, I think this has nothing to do with the graphic, but why not try.

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

He has issues in combination with offline devices.

Therefore, I think he should fix it and then install 2.01 which gives him the latest TM FX features
plus the ability to switch between old and new design.

Is it beneficial to stay on 1.99 instead? I think not, as he can swap the design at any time.

I am not using offline devices; I tried it once, so I can't say much about it.
But it should be doable to get rid of that stuff.

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

I have to take back my upper comment´in post #6. Demo devices should and do work as expected by @asperine. But one important point has been overlooked: on Mac the dialog to generate the offline device has the option to add a serial number. Here one has to use the serial number of the online device. Then everything will work with Workspaces. Manual editiing the file is basically possible, but includes the serial number in several places, which most probably was overlooked as well so the Workspace loaded incomplete. As said, better do it right from the start.

Please try this again.

Under Windows same model offline devices are automatrically replaced by online devices, as there no serial number scheme exists. And again it should work as expected.

Re: Workspace load incomplete from offline device or workspace file

I never used workspace editing with offline device, but good to know.
I'm convinced this serial number input was overlooked.
