Almost all ( in class compliant mode )

Not the hdsp cards
Not the Madiface USB

Pick one interface that looks interesting for you and check the user manual for "class compliant"

In some cases you need a Windows or Mac computer to switch ON CC-mode in the interface, afterwards connect the interface to a Linux computer and use the audio inputs and outputs of the interface directly.

Re: Currently available interfaces that work in linux

For a list of class-compliant USB 2 and USB 3 interfaces, see my Excel, Overview, line 92:

UFX III introduces USB3 Class compliant mode.

UFX III and UFX II are currently available at a good price here in Germany, -22% and -17% off UVP (RRP/MSRP).

https://www.thomann.de/de/rme_fireface_ufx_iii.htm 2326 € (-22% off, UVP 2999 €)
https://www.thomann.de/de/rme_fireface_ufx_ii.htm 1999 € (-17% off, UVP 2399 €)

Re: Currently available interfaces that work in linux

Older HDSP cards work pretty much out of the box, like Multiface I & II with the pcmcia, pci or pcie adapter card. Run hdspconf and hdspmixer. It comes with alsa-tools-gui in any standard distro.
The AIO PRO is a different beast and needs hdspeconf which needs to be compiled.
This is what I personally ran succesfully

Not the Madiface USB

The Madiface USB does have a class compliant mode. I am running it here connected to a Raspberry Pi 5.

True.
Thats pretty new, the new firmware with class-compliant-mode was released in January this year.

Re: Currently available interfaces that work in linux

You might have also missed USB.IO, USB.MADI, Digiface Ravenna and Digiface USB. We have started to add USB 2 devices that don't have physical switches to change modes, because the solution with Windows/Mac FUTs changing the mode turned out to work so well.

Re: Currently available interfaces that work in linux

Thanks

Summarize

The Digiface AVB is the only RME interface not to use on Linux

All other actual  RME interfaces can be used on Linux

Old Firewire interfaces FF400 and FF800 can not run on Linux

Hdsp card needs some special software as mentioned here :
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 34#p251734

Instead of Totalmix one can use Reaper Linux to route all monitoring needed.

Excel: line 92, CC-mode. For iPAD and Linux.

Windows and macOS have native driver support, so I left these two out.
