Topic: [solved] Noise on FF800 instrument input - CHECK THE WHOLE CHAIN!!

Hi RME users out there!
(or audio interface users in general...)

As I celebrate my failures in order to keep others from doing the same mistakes:

Having plugged out the guitar and plugged in the Korg MS-20 into the Fireface 800's input #1 half an hour later, I was wondering about the strange hiss noise I had on the channel.

But only on the headphone output of the RME, NOT on the headphone from the synth directly.
It sounded a bit different, too.
There MUST be something wrong somewhere.

I spent 20 minutes checking cables, connections, fireface setting, turning volumes up and down until I realised:

I STILL HAD AMPLITUDE RUNNING ON THE COMPUTER!!

So, keep a hollistic approach when encountering strange effects, and keep an eye on the whole chain.
And don't forget the software part!!

Keep on making music instead of mistakes - except when they are lucky ones :-)

You mean Amplitube the gutar amp sim ?

Sending synth sounds thru a guitar amp is not wrong, if you want it.

And by mistake you posted this five times ?

M1-Tahoe, Madiface Pro, Digiface USB, Babyface silver and blue

Yes, xgüsi, I had an error message everytime posting the message (linked to emojis) - but it was posted anyway, so it seems.
This one is fixed as well now...

Sending synths signals through amp or pedal simulations is fine if you do it on purpose.
But here I was looking for that noise on the input, which in the end only came from the amp simulation running on the same channel.
I did not feel clever when I realised that!! :-D
