The "allow in the background" is on
You say that the FF, cable and adapters work on another machine. And you say the driver installation is as it should be.
Did you try all of the USB/Thunderbolt ports on the Mac Mini? Plug it in directly without a hub btw.

Yeah, i tried all of them. They also work just fine with my ssd.
Do you think I could try resetting the Mac m4 at this point?
What do you mean by "resetting"? I hope you rebooted, better cold-rebooted at some point in all this.
But I am lost now. My iMac M1 with the FF800 went through several OS upgrades and updates over the years and I never had to reinstall drivers or reconfigure anything.

I meant resetting as erasing all content and updates from my m4. Of course I rebooted!
I am very lost as well
Ok, after another circle of unistalling and installing again somehow now it works. I am confused and don't want to update anything anymore lol
Thank you for supporting and sorry if I made you lose your time!
Good news! So you are still (or again) on 15.6.1 with driver 3.41 and everything works? It should!
Be advised that the Fireface 800 won't work with MacOS 16 Tahoe anymore. Apple will finally drop Firewire support with the next OS. That is what the message you had seen refers to.
Any upcoming updates for Sequoia should still work though.
Anyone using this configuration on a Mac Pro 2012?
I've been using the FireFace 800 with my Mac Pro for years. To continue using my software, I upgraded macOS to Sequoia (OpenCore). However, I now have to restart my Mac Pro twice in succession before I can use FireFace. I also can't turn off FireFace while the Mac is asleep. Otherwise, the FireFace will make an annoying hissing sound.
Is anyone familiar with this problem?

Exactly everything is working with 15.6.1 and 3.41 drivers.
I will be aware of staying with Sequoia then, thank you again!

Don't expect to get any official support here for an unofficial configuration like that.
And still everything is o.k. with Sequoia 15.7!
Same with Sequoia 15.7.1.
Just for the sake of completeness: Sequoia 15.7.2 also still works as expected.
Has anyone tried the new Mac OS released 11th Nov 2025 with the Fireface 400?
Do the drivers still work with this upgrade?
Many thanks

I did not see any release at 11.11.2025
We are at 26.1 Tahoe at the moment and Firewire no longer works as explained in the RME webpage :

This thread is about Sequoia. What was released on or around the 11th Nov was the Sequoia update 15.7.2 I already mentioned above. As expected the Fireface 800 works with this and also the FF 400 should. They should still work with all upcoming Sequoia updates as I can't imagine Apple suddenly dropping Firewire support within the last rounds of Sequoia.
I'm sorry I had no idea there are still updates coming out for old MacOS.
There will be. Probably for several years. They usually are no big things though. Just security updates mostly.
The last version of Sequoia is causing digital feedback through the soundcard (fireface 400) on start up. When reconnected works fine.
Anyone got an idea how to avoid this start up glitch?
Many thanks
Try flashing the mixer state after startup to the device. If that doesn't help, please be more specific about what exactly is happening, where does this occur?

The mixer window opens on start up as a log in item. The feedback comes from the M4 computer through the fireface 400
After disconnect and reconnect the unit works fine!
Any advice gratefully received
Many thanks
Fireface 800 and Sequoia 15.7.4: Thumbs up!
Fireface 800 and Sequoia 15.7.5: More thumbs up!
Did I miss Sequoia 15.7.6? Or did Apple skip it?
Anyway – Fireface 800 and Sequoia 15.7.7: Thumbs up some more!
