Topic: ARC USB controller goes offline

Just wondering if there's a solution or some hardward issue - a new RME ARC USB controller for Totalmix likes to go to sleep - that is - loses connection with Total mix at regular intervals...

The fix is to replug the usb at the back of the device.  As you could imagine, a little bothersome, especially when you really need fast access to volume and its not responding!

Drops out, as i say, at regular intervals, every couple of hours at best.

System Win10Pro 22H2
Totalmix 1.98 (2) win32
RME Hammerfall DSP v4.50

Thanks :-)

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

For a test I would try with driver update to 462
and Totalmix 2.00 beta 17

More details about the setup, please Try other usb ports, check power management settings for USB.

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Yeh, tried it all, power usb options, other ports, latsest driver, latest total mix, everythign latest.  ARC USB still regularly goes off line.  When it does, seems that the totalmix interface also stalls.  Replugging ARC usually gets it back online, sometimes I have to joggle with totalmix to get it to wake up.  Sometimes restart total mix.  etc

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

I've recently noticed it's related to sample rate changes.  Seems to drop out, not exclusively but definately usually, whenever sample rates are changed... any idea how this can be addressed?  Is it usally the case??  You see I change sample rates 10 tmes a day due to doing exclusively mastering.  It's a real bugger!

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Sample rate changes can sause CPU load peaks that interrupt for example USB communication.

You could try the latest TM FX 1.991 RC2 (or 2.0 RC 2) as they include some USB MIDI fixes for the ARC USB:

Maybe your lucky and it helps. Otherwise see first line...

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Thanks Matthias for your reply.  I've been running TM FX 2.0.  Is it worth rolling it back to 1.991?  Or is it same/same?
Interesting re cpu load spike resetting usb.  Will have to look into that.

Former post talked about beta 17. So you are now on RC 2?

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Did that resolve the issue? I've been experiencing the same thing.

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

So far so good but early days, only installed Friday, now it's Monday.  Havent' had a chance to give it a good test at multiple sample rates.  I'll report back soon as I've confirmed this solution or otherwise.  Worth trying all the steps above tho as it's no loss.  Let me know if it works for you...

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Didn't fix shit unfortunately.
I suppose I'll look into "CPU peaks that interrupt USB communication"...
Although Total Mix seems to stall at the same times, not sure if that's because of the ARC, never noticed it before so maybe... (just added ARC to the system recently)

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Bummer. Yeah, I had already tried the stuff above. The only thing that works for me is rebooting.

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Damn.  I generally get away with replugging the ARC and toggling the master fader on Total mix, sometimes replugging again to get them working together again...  Worst case Totalmix freezes and needs to restart.  Never have to reboot whole system tho fortunately or I'd be sending the thing back for sure...

Pretty hopless all round tho.  Must be some specific error they are not picking up on.  Is definately mostly associated with sample rate changes, most of the time but not exlusively.

Basically it screws my workflow hard.  So annoying.  You pay good money for best tech and it still screws you

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

Seems unlikely for the ARC itself to be the cause. Have you really tried all available USB ports? And another cable as well?

Do you mean your computer with "best tech" ?

Re: ARC USB controller goes offline

AAVIMT is a reputed audio PC builder in Melbourne Australia, supplied for many prominent studios in Australia.  Mine is the third one I've had from him, very excellent reliable systems.  It's getting on the older side by now but still runs well with everything else.  But I guess I'll put RME Hammerfall DSP talking to it's own ARC USB down to my computers fault.  And Totalmix crashing, stalling, losing contact with ARC USB contantly is all my computers fault.
