Topic: [Solved] Windows 11 apps don't show MADI inputs after MB replacement

For years I have used a UFX+ as my main interface, with an Octamic XTC and a 12mic connected by MADI. This has always worked fine.

I have recently had to replace the motherboard in my computer. After getting everything set up and loading all the RME drivers, I can see inputs from all three devices in TotalMix, including the 20 MADI inputs. Also, I MIDI over MADI control is working for all the devices, i.e. I can control gain, phantom power, pad, etc. from TotalMix 2.03. The web-based 12mic remote also shows everything as OK, including all the MADI routing. Mic signals into the Octamix XTC or the 12mic appear in TotalMix as expected. So far, so good.

However, my DAW (Reaper) no longer shows the MADI inputs as available (it did before). It shows the 12 UFX+ line and mic inputs, AES, and 16 ADAT inputs. Sound Forge also does not show the MADI inputs as available, listing the same inputs as Reaper.

In the MADIface Settings app (notification bar), only the UFX+ inputs are appearing under WDM devices configuration, i.e. 12 line and mic, AES, and 16 ADAT.

I have of course checked all the settings on the RME devices, and can't find any obvious problems (although I may have made an error without knowing it).

Maybe I have overlooked a setting somewhere in the menus of the RME devices. Any help that anyone could offer would be much appreciated.

Re: [Solved] Windows 11 apps don't show MADI inputs after MB replacement

Quickest solution ever. I asked ChatGPT and the first suggestion was to make sure that the USB connection for the UFX+ was USB 3.0. It was 2.0. I chose another USB jack, and that fixed it.

I hope this helps someone else.

To be on the safe side, check in driver settings, to see whether you see no CRC errors appearing.
For the CRC checks to run, the driver settings window has to be open.

CRC errors might happen due to a bad cable, but also if you are using a port from a 3rd party USB3 controller, which does not support the needed USB3 transfer modes well, that the MADIface driver uses. See the manual about USB3.
Often ASMedia USB3 controller chips are used on mainboards to give additional USB3 ports capacity.
Best is to use the USB3 ports that come from the chipset. Alternatively, from supported USB3 3rd party controllers, see the manual.

Thank you Ramses, for this reply and for the many helpful posts you make here!

In the Settings dialog, it says "USB Diagnosis 0|0|0, 0 crc5/16, 0 crc32 err /2.0min"

I'm not sure how to interpret this, but it seems OK. Glad to be informed if I'm wrong!

You're welcome, thanks for the flowers wink

Every counter is at "0", this looks good. According to RME all of them need to be at zero, or there is an issue.

If there is a major problem, I would expect that the error counter will increase very soon.
Nevertheless, I would recommend letting it run for a longer time period than 2 minutes.
Maybe also in parallel to DAW use.
Always keep in mind: the driver settings window needs to stay open, or the CRC check stops, and the counters will be reset.
