can i use digicheck to look at wav file to analyze bits?

Then you are using the older version of DIGICheck (5.x) under Windows.

Reason: only the Windows version of DIGICheck has Global Record, which is required for loading a Wave File.

Why do you complain about the documentation? The online help clearly provides you this information:

Load Wave File: "Dieser Menüpunkt öffnet eine Dialogbox zur Auswahl eines Wave Files welches in die Funktion Global Record geladen wird. In den anderen Funktionen ist dieser Menüpunkt ausgegraut. Entspricht der Taste Load in der Transportleiste."

I just tried the loading of wave file

I opened the DC 5.x "Global Record" window, where you can load a .wav file.
I opened the Totalyser Window for analyzing the wave file, but it can by any other analyzer window, one or multiple.

In the Global Record Window you need to select the proper RME ASIO driver, Device and as Source: Playback.
Select two (stereo) channels, using the record arm buttons (see the red button in the screenshot).
This is where the audio will be played back in the middle row = SW Playbacks = Audio coming from the computer.

I am sending it to the PH L and PH R channel because this is where I usually have sound from MusicBee,
and those channels are routed to my standard monitoring through the HW output AES.

On this particular HW Output you need to enable Loopback.
In my case to get the playback of this wave file on the corresponding HW input AES IN.

Now open the input settings of the Digicheck Totalyser (or any other DC analyzer window).
There you need to select the Input Channel AES IN, where you get the audio stream through loopback.

Why loopback in this case? SW Playback is already in use by Global Record to load/playback the wave file.
Through loopback recording, we can redirect audio to an HW input.
And from there we can read the audio stream with any DC analyzer window.

Global Record - Select driver, playback and arm the two playback channels in the application

Global Record - Start playback - SW playback PH is routed in TotalMix FX to HW Output AES (with loopback enabled)

Analyser - Select the proper input channel HW Input AES, this channel gets audio through loopback

Finally..

The Load Wavefile function in the older DC 5.96 needs the DIGICheck "Global Record" window, BUT ...
... at the end of the day you can use any Windows Audio Player or DAW or WaveLAB etc to play a wav file
and to analyse the audio data through either DIGICheck 5.96 or the newer - more modern - DIGICheck NG.

As I mentioned, do not make it so hard for you ... you do not need this.

Play music through your audio application and monitor the playback channel. It's the same and easier to handle.
