Unfortunately, TM FX 2.1b5 still has scaling issues after several reboots on Windows 11, and I am also using 2row mode.

But I also have this issue on mac. That's Tm Fx 2.1 b4, MBP M1Pro, Mac Os  26.6.1. After reboot the Tm Fx window is upscaled, zoomed in by a few points. Not a big issue, bc I can zoom out, but still it ocures after each reboot.

smile Why reboot mac? Well, it's a Macbook Pro, I often play gigs, so before I leave home, I turn off my Mac and put it in a laptop case, put my gear in my trunk (laptop, microphones, stands, audio interface and so on) and off I go. Anyway, I would never put a laptop into sleep mode and then put it a case and for example carry it around in a backpack. I always turn it off. I don't trust Apple corp that much, bc it might wake from sleep and turn on fans and not get enough air and burn. I thought it was obvious, but maybe there's sth that I don't know.

By this, you are only hiding a defect that might have been introduced already days ago.
If there should be an issue, then it's better to restore a backup of only 1 hour or 1 day ago,
instead of one that is a couple of days old.

Besides that, it's always beneficial to work with a freshly initialized operating system.
Especially before important tasks.
You can never know whether an OS or software update introduces something like a memory leak.

So the definitive preference is to boot instead of piling up several days of runtime.
It's a desktop system where you can do it, not a server.

It shouldn't matter whether you always shut down your PC/laptop completely after use or just put it in standby mode. Or whether you are using a Windows or a Macintosh operating system. This scaling problem with TotalMix version 2 should not occur anywhere.

Unfortunately, I have to confirm these scaling problems in version TotalMix 2.1b5 too. At first I thought that this problem could be due to my two computer monitors, each with different scaling. I have noticed the following observations: if you switch from the normal view to the '2 row' or to the '2 row in' view in the new TotalMix version, then the scaling of TotalMix will automatically change. This is strange and should definitely not happen in this way. Can anyone here confirm this behavior?

Furthermore, this behavior also occurs if I drag the TotalMix window over to my second computer monitor and then move it back to the main monitor. The scaling is always changed. This is certainly not the intention. It seems to me that a far-reaching remedy from RME is required here.

Thank you very much for adding GlobalOSC support to TotalMix FX — it's a great addition and opens up a lot of new possibilities.

I'd like to request one additional feature, if possible:

When a fader channel (Input/Playback/Output) is clicked in the TotalMix FX GUI, I'd like TotalMix FX to send an OSC notification of that selection, e.g. /input/channel/select 1 (or /input/1/select 1)
Along with the selection message, please also send the current fader status for that channel
Use case: I'm building a single-fader motorized controller. When I click a channel in TotalMix FX to select it, the controller should receive the selection + current value via OSC and move its fader to match. From then on, moving the physical fader controls whichever channel is currently selected in TotalMix FX.
Current limitation: In the present beta, clicking a channel alone doesn't generate any OSC message — only actual value/mute changes trigger output. Adding a select/status notification on click would make this workflow possible.

Thanks again for the continued development of TotalMix FX!

You seem to talk about something different. In TM FX 2.0 we have zoom, so other than the old version the window keeps its size when changing to 2 Row mode, and the window content is automatically zoomed to fill the window. That is not a bug, that is a feature.

Trommeltotti wrote:

Using different monitors with different scaling makes it pretty complicated to keep/remember states for an app like TM FX that can zoom its content (if you try this with another app that app most probably does not have such a graphical zoom feature, so might work as you expect). I don't want to downplay this, but both such setups and constantly moving TM FX around are not typical setups/workflows, so not our highest priority in fixing. But of course, in the long run we will try to improve this even more.

But as said, that is not the current topic here. B5 Windows included code changes and fixed scaling issues with window sizes reaching the max horizontal or vertical monitor size. We will check out the other issues reported here again, also under macOS. Thanks for all the feedback!

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

Hello Matthias Carstens,

First of all, thank you very much for the quick answer.

Basically, we don't need the '2 row' and the '2 row in' function on our studio computer nor do we need to move the TotalMix window to the second monitor, as the 43' main screen is large enough to display all 30 physical inputs and outputs from our RME Fireface UFX II interface completely in the TotalMix window without scrolling. The above attempts were only for testing purposes. However, the required image size is only displayed on the main screen if the desired scaling of 135% is set. Unfortunately, every time you start the Windows computer, TotalMix 2.0 displays a larger scaling and cannot remember the previously selected value of 135%. It would be enough for us if RME can solve this problem.

Kubrak wrote:

I downloaded the 'TotalMx FX 2 x Windows Installer, latest version' from the RME homepage under Downloads > Software and installed it on the computer. Then I downloaded the current beta version of the EXE file and replaced the original EXE file in the program folder with the beta version. To do this, you have to close the TotalMix program in order to gain access rights to the program folder. Then I renamed the beta version of 'TotalMixFX.exe' to 'TotalMixFX_x64.exe'. I only use the new TotalMix 2.0 interface.

Under the 'Windows' menu item I can also use the new TotalMix user interface to select a fixed scaling of 135%, which will have the desired size. As long as the operating system stays booted everything is fine. However, after each restart of Windows, TotalMix 2.0 unintentionally shows a larger scaling. This is not a drama, but it can certainly be avoided if RME can resolve this issue. A mature program should be able to properly remember its window size and scaling.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

But I guess, fixed scaling is intended for old interface as it is not freely scalable. Why do you use scaling for the new interface? One may set the size freely according the taste.

I am on Win and it does not seem me that TM is bigger after the restart. But if it is one or two pixels more, I would not probably recognize it.... I use scaling 100%.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

I applaud RME for doing this and for giving us users the opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions. Really showcases them as a great people and company, and so just want to personally comment that I love the new design and perks .. but would like to mention that in my case, I think the old version had better text and icon clarity. It seems on my monitors that the text (track names, eq, dynamics, settings, meter numbers, etc. has become a grey to dark grey color and so is hard to see, where version 1 had bright and clear text so if that could be a possibility again, I would use version 2.x  Thanks!

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

After testing the scaling again, I realized that I had probably made a mistake in my thinking. My basic idea was to have TotalMix 2.0 at maximize window position on the main monitor to utilize the entire window width. And that's exactly what you should not do with the new scaling function of TotalMix 2.0! On the other hand, if you manually drag the top and side window frames of TotalMix 2.0 to the desired frame size, you can use the zoom scaling to achieve a suitable zoom level, which will retain its size even after a computer restart. This is not the case with a maximized Totalmix 2.0 window. There are obviously problems with the chosen scaling. You have to keep this fact in mind.

Nevertheless, RME should take care of the matter and observe the behavior of the scaling with a maximized TotalMix 2.0 window and make improvements if necessary. Another point still remains to be clarified. The additional TotalMix 2.0 windows (Preference, Settings, Room EQ etc.) no longer open centrally on the computer screen, but rather near where you open them with the mouse. This means that a Room EQ in the Control Room area will open in the lower right half of the screen. If you use multiple computer monitors, as in my case, the Room EQ is displayed illegibly between two monitors. So you have to keep pulling this window back into the readable area. This is not a user-friendly solution at all. I would like to have an option again so that the additional TotalMix 2.0 windows open in the central middle of the screen.

I have attached some photos here where you can visually understand my comments above.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

Of course the preset scaling should stay after reboot - it's not different from a user zoomed state that should survive reboot. And for most users it does. This might be an issue with your 2 monitor setup where both have different resolutions/scalings.

EDIT: Oh, we posted at the same time! Thanks for the additional info. So this is a dual monitor full screen issue, it seems. We try to check this out.

EDIT 2: Sorry, but I don't understand those screenshots. Correct scaling (135).png shows TMFX in full screen mode (upper right button for full size had been pressed), so fully occupying one monitor, right? What exactly changed in wrong scaling.png? Vertically all three rows are still fully visible, the content of the side bar did not change (means same zoom state as before), and the upper right symbol shows fullscreen mode active again - yet there is less horizontal space in the three rows. So is that TM FX window no longer fully occupying the whole monitor, shrinked in horizontal size?

It looks like TM FX is no longer full screen but has reduced its window size significantly, only horizontally - with zoom/scaling not changed. Please clarify.

MC wrote:

Please see the description of the pictures. (From top to bottom)

In the first picture with the full screen mode you can see how the upper input row (all 30 mono channels of the UFX II) will protrude into the right control strip area due to its unintentionally scaled size, so that you can no longer see all the channels at once. This means that after every Windows restart I had to click again and again on the 135% scaling under the 'Windows' menu item in order to be able to see all the channels under the input row without scrolling horizontally. See picture two from above. Unfortunately, I came up with the idea far too late to leave the full screen mode and instead manually align the TotalMix 2x window pages to the size of the 43' computer monitor. Sorry for that. In the third photo without full screen mode you can see that the upper input row will have optimal scaling and will be very close to the right control strip without creating large gaps. And the good thing is that this view remains the same even after restarting Windows. Apparently unwanted scaling occurs when operating with the new TotalMix 2x in full screen mode. Maybe RME itself would like to test again.

Let's come to picture four from above: I would like to have an option again so that all additional windows of TotalMix open twice centrally in the middle of the monitor. Especially if you will be working with a fairly large screen or even using multiple screens. As you can see in the picture, the Room EQ of a channel in the right Control Room area opens illegibly between two screens at the bottom right edge. So you have to keep dragging this window into the readable area. This is very annoying and should not occur in mature software. This point should be considered independently of the new scaling function.

Sorry, but the posted pics were (at least for me) quite irritating. Simply because in correct scaling 135 you cut off the rest of the desktop (height is only 1560 pixel instead of 2160). So finally I was able to reproduce this effect: one has to go full size window (upper right), then select 100% (on my monitor) or 135 on yours etc, so that an unused lower area appears (the window is still in full size mode, but it is not for the bottom edge). Now rebooting TM FX thinks it was in full screen mode and fills it all. Or something similar happens.

We'll see if that can be handled with Windows methods.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

IMHO, possibility to set scaling should be greyed out for the new interface and allowed only for the old one. As it is IMHO nonsence. One should set size only by classical ways, like in most Win/OSX applications. The scale is to be used only for old bitmapbased interface.

If you want to keep scaling possibility also for the new interface, then it would be needed always check when window is set to full screen whether the resulting size is full screen and if not change the status of window to not-full screen.

I guess, that would solve all/most problems.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

Sounds like a possible workaround. Please note the fixed scaling ensures pixel accuracy, which becomes easily visible on low resolution (aka non 2 or 4k monitors). We had enough people complain about 'aliasing' artefacts in the early beta phase (which I personally could only see with a magnifier, but bothered them).

The above case from Trommeltotti is quite unique, and already had us scratch our heads before in the previous fixes, as we had to learn that Windows misses clear indicators for max size windows in horizontal and vertical direction (for programmers). While we were able to fix these, this one is a variation of it that seems not yet handled correctly.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

Thank you once again for RME's constant efforts to tailor its own software to the users' wishes as much as possible. I was able to solve my problem above by no longer using the Windows full screen function as usual with the old TM FX. That's why I don't want to make such a big deal about this matter.

After all, there are still other construction sites to work on. For example, the problem with the visibility of the open Room EQ of a channel in the Control Room area, which can extend beyond the right edge of the screen. If you open an EQ or compressor window of a normal channel, the adjacent right channels automatically move further to the right to make space for the additional window. However, if you open an EQ or a compressor from a channel that is assigned to the Control Room, the corresponding channel moves to the left towards the center of the screen to create space for this additional EQ/Comp window. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the Room EQ and means that it can extend beyond the right edge of the screen. (see my 4th picture) this can certainly be solved in a more user-friendly way.

Windows have means to get Max sizes of physical monitor. It becomes more tricky if more displays are used and also if scaling is used. And I do not know, if those functionalities are accesible in multiplatform library, that you probably use. But generally, one may get information about number of monitors and their physical sizes. The RME company in particular should be aware that many users will use multiple screens for this purpose. In particular, many users will probably have the powerful DigiCheck (Totalyzer) program constantly open on a separate screen. This is also the case here in our studio.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

Many thanks for the new Global OSC. It is going to make a dramatic impact on my workflow!

1) Loading Quick Workspaces through this new Global OSC hasn't been implemented. This is a function that works perfectly with the "old" style OSC (via loadQuickWorkspace 1..30).

2) On one of my Windows 10 computers, the font size in Preferences and Settings is oddly large and it's getting cut off. The GUI is working perfectly - it's just the text that's funny: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-FdGRg … sp=sharing

3) I've noticed that Mixer Settings are saved as part of each Workspace. My opinion is that these settings should NOT travel with the Workspaces. Most of the settings in this menu feel system-wide to me. When I am making a tweak to the OSC settings, I need to manually propogate those changes to every Quick Workspace (of which I have many)

4) More Layout Presets & Snapshots: I know this is a difficult change given the current GUI code and constraints. However, I thought of a possible workaround. Global OSC could push and pull Layouts/Snapshots above the current limitation of 6. This way, advanced users could make use of this feature for high channel count devices and novel controller concepts, but the GUI would stay clean and just showing the current 6 slots.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

hey there the new changes are really cool as I love osc and I also have a streamdeck but my main issues still remain:
my biggest pet peeves is that I can't exclude certain very specific buttons from snapshots (in my case phantom 1) but also sometimes group level and mutes when switching
I have snapshot 2 set as my vocal recording with phantom but then if i want to switch to snapshot 1 (speakers) it will click when i go back to rerecord on snapshot 2 through the headphones
So ideally it would stay in its current state manually turned on/off and when switching to monitors i can disable the fader so there isnt any feedback
having it on one snapshot and turning monitors and headphones on/off is more clicks and causes sometimes to record with speakers still on..

Would really be nice smile

I would also love the mono to affect my headphone out not just my main out (the reason why i don't use headphones as output B or as main in another snapshot is that the volume isn't remembered per output but per function which is part of my first pet peeve with some functions not being left as they were between snapshots )

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

@MC Do you think you could get TotalMixFX to reconnect to MIDI devices after they are unplugged and plugged back in again on Windows.  Currently if a USB MIDI device gets powered down during sleep or it's unplugged and plugged back in, then we need to toggle TotalMixFX -> Options -> Enable MIDI Control off and on to get them working again.

You might not expect this issue to come up very often, but it does, many times a day.  Like many users these days, most of my gear is conencted through my monitor (which dubs as a KVM switch).  And every time I put my computer to sleep, turn off my monitor, or cycle though my machines, I have toggle that option again.

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

Hi,

maybe another issue. Having activated OSC and restrict OSC control to only a certain submix (e.g. AES) the whole Mixer is frozen to that submix. It is no longer possible to switch to a differnz submix (e.g. Main). Turning off OSC it works again.

Should that not be independend on the OSC?

You have to turn off "Options"/"Submix linked to OSC Controller" for the selected OSC controller.
This option is helpful to synchronize TotalMix windows with remotes in Mackie-style OSC, but it's a conceptional question to disable this functionality perhaps completely for Global OSC.

Settings dialogs open centered over the window from which they were launched (just tested this again with beta 5).

The Room EQ windows are positioned next to the Room EQ button (if they were centered, multiple windows would end up stacked on top of each other). Currently there is no constraint regarding the desktop edge in TotalMix FX Windows, but should be (the absolute screen edge; handling transition between two monitors is very complex). However, the position is cached for the last 10 windows during a session, so you generally don't have to repositioning them too often (this has been a topic of discussion from the beginning; personally, I hadn't realized there were workflows requiring such highly frequent adjustment of the Room EQ)...

Re: TotalMix FX 2.1 now available as beta

I'm not sure this is the right place, but I have a feature request for Totalmix: I'd LOVE the ability to reorder channel faders. E.G. I have one outboard effects unit that comes in on inputs 3-4 on the Fireface, and another uses adat 7-8. I'd like to be able to place these together at the end of all my inputs, for mental clarity. (Due to requirements of impedence/level, I can't just move them around to different physical inputs.)

If there's a better place to request this, please let me know. Thanks!

Settings dialogs open centered over the window from which they were launched (just tested this again with beta 5).

Since I no longer maximize the scalable TM 2.0 window in Windows 11, the settings dialogs open centrally in the middle of the screen again.

In contrast to the conventional EQ's and the Dynamic's, the Room EQ opens in a freely scalable size and can be moved freely in the Windows screen after opening. It would be enough if the respective Room EQ in the Control Room area always opened towards the inner center of the image instead of extending further to the right. The Control Room area is usually displayed very close to the right edge of the screen. However, it would be best if TM 2.0 could remember all window arrangements even after each Windows restart.

I finally found a reliable workaround for these issues.

1. My Babyface is always connected to my Windows machine, so I use connect my MIDI Remote devices through the RME DIN MIIDI port.  That resolves the issue of losing the connection when my USB MIDI devices switch between Windows, Ubuntu and macOS.

2. I made a script that runs every time the my computer wakes from sleep.  It closes TotalMixFX if it's open, and then reopens it.

I'm quite please to finally have a good quality intereface, convient and reliable control of it via MIDI, and a system that is environmentally friendly.
