Can I add the 'loopback' on and off to a button on the ARC USB?

Why don't you look at the ARC USB configuration yourself?

TM FX -> Options -> Arc & Key commands: Tab "ARC USB Settings".

Look at the pulldown menu of any key ... There is no loopback.

Just a few thoughts on that from my side; the final decision will be from RME.

How should ARC USB know for which output this function should be applicable?

For the selected output? It's questionable whether this is technically possible, and then you are already operating TM FX, so you can also enable loopback using the mouse if you have already selected the channel with the mouse.

For Main Out only? Do you change this so often and only for Main Out? Would that be worth the effort?

Workspace Quick Select can give you more Snapshots if needed.
The first 9 (of a total of 30) are selectable by the key combination ALT-1..ALT-9 (Apple: Option-1..Option-9).
This gives 9*8=72 snapshots (=stored loopback combinations) user-controllable by keyboard and ARC USB.
