Topic: FF400 newbie needs help

hi

i just got my FF400. all i want to do with this marvel is digitize vinyl records with 24 bit/96khz. i'm using a MBP (os 10.6.6), the software "soundstudio 4" for recording and i have updated both, drivers and firmware of the FF400. the output of my RIAA phono stage is buffered/balanced with a funk SAM 1b module and connected to line in 5 + 6 of the FF400. i have set the FF400 as input/output in the mac's audio-MIDI set-up. when i play a record and use headphones on the FF400, i hear the sound loud'n'clear. totalmix input meters show full signal, too.  however, the input meters of soundstudio (wide open) remain blank. i'm uncertain if i have to select an output in totalmix.

i know the FF400 is probably overkill for what i use it for. and i'm no sound engineer. but i find the user's guide over my head and confusing (way too many options i don't need). i wish there was a simple walk thru for newbies like me on how to set the FF400 and the MBP in order to record the sound coming from the FF400 with soundstudio 4.1

please, pretty please with sugar on top - can anybody give me a simple step-by-step walk thru?

thank you VERY MUCH!

I don't know this program but it seems you have to select input 3/4 in it. If that is not possible route input 3/4 to output 1/2 in TotalMix and hit the loopback button.

Re: FF400 newbie needs help

carsten,

- how exactely do i "route input 3/4 to output 1/2 in TotalMix" and which is the "loopback button"?
- i tried inputs 3/4, but the signal clips even with 0 gain and when padded. the same signal (signal+4 dBu) into inputs 5/6 is OK.

sorry for my ignorance and thanks for helping!
