Topic: ADI-8 AE internal clock vs steadyclock question

i did some searching but can't get no love:

How does internal clock for the ADI-8 AE compare with steadyclock in firewire series?
How well does ADI-8 AE receive external clock compared to FF800 steadyclock?

I gather that steadyclock is better at receiving external clock, so i imagine clocking the FF800 off the the ADI internal would give me the most consistent A/D conversion across all 18 channels. just curious as to how much worse this might be compare to the FF800 convertors using internal steadyclock

any though much appreciated
cheers

Re: ADI-8 AE internal clock vs steadyclock question

You are right in principle. The real-world loss when doing it 'wrong' is zero, as long as we are talking about short cables and good (normal) clocks. While the AE does not have active jitter suppression its clock is the same as the one from the DS (it is the DS), and that one is used in many professional studios around the world, clocked via ADAT from ProTools. A clear sign that the sound is perfect even then.

Re: ADI-8 AE internal clock vs steadyclock question

Hi, when used in combo with a HDSP9652, can the ADI-8 AE be clocked internally, both in and outs and the hdsp be slave?
Thanks

Re: ADI-8 AE internal clock vs steadyclock question

Thanks!
From a fast read of the manual I wasn´t 100% sure....It seemed like both in and out´s could be set separately. Most audio cards are set globally, for ins and outs.

Re: ADI-8 AE internal clock vs steadyclock question

Hey guys, got my ADI-8 AE yesterday (only 7 years late to the party :-P ) and loving it (for today only using the DA part). From a technical standpoint is any of the output level settings superior? From my logic Hi Gain would be best if the other settings are padded. Any ideas?
