Topic: Digi9636 optical input monitoring
Is there a way I can listen to a cd player connected to the optical input?
I have a high end CD player with optical out. I would like to listen to CDs through rme for referencing purposes.
Thanks

The card will not change or improve the sound... The connection would be absolutely identical to connecting the CD player directly to an external converter... Besides, this card does not have its own mixer or routing software, so you would need to go through some DAW.

Thanks. That is actually what I want. I want to listen to my known good CD player and compare my projects to recorded cds. I want to get the feel of my 9636. I used m-audio delta 1010 for a few years and switched to RME 9636 with a Ramsa DA&. The sound is significantly different. Better, I think! I have noticed a dramatic CPU usage drop.
I am kind of contemplating adi-2 and a mic in for simplicity. Any opinion? I am using Ramsa DA7 for conversion and pre amps.
Thanks
If at all, the change is in the converters, the 9636 wil not change or improve the sound.
