Topic: Dead midi port on Fireface UFX ?

This is really strange but I cannot get MIDI PORT 1 to work on my UFX anymore. Been using it fine for awhile now and then today just out of the blue it just will not send out any midi signals. I Tried it on two devices.

I switched cables and it didn't help either, I connected the devices to midi port 2 and it worked right away. Ableton live is showing midi output activity and the Midi OUT1 LED on the FF UFX blinks when I send a message. Everything looks to be in working order except for the fact that no midi signal is being sent. Midi input on PORT 1 doesn't seem to be working either.

I am totally baffled and have been messing around for over an hour trying to figure out what went wrong, and I have no idea.

I have an M-Audio Profire 610 on top of the UFX on the right side. But its been there for a while now with no problems, and I checked the temps on the UFX and the profire above and below and its fine. Its warm but not even close to something that could be considered "hot".

How could it just stop working out of nowhere ? this makes no sense to me. I did plug in some more patch cords form the profire to the UFX today... using all 8 outputs of the profire and all 8 inputs of the ufx now. But I didn't touch the midi jack or do anything to it. Ive owned the unit for about a month now.

If anyone has any advice or ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. I guess the next move is to return it to the seller or RMA the UFX but I really don't want to do that. I'm hoping I am overlooking something but I really don't think so....

Thanks

Your description points to a fault inside the unit. Please contact your local distributor for repair.

Re: Dead midi port on Fireface UFX ?

Damn that sucks. The first one I got had a really bad knob on it (knob 2). I did a straight exchange with my retailer for a new one. And now this... except this is about 40 days after purchase now, so I have to ship it out RMA style and be without the unit for about 2 weeks sad

This is my first RME product too. I honestly love it otherwise, it is a beautiful interface and the drivers are excellent.

But I am questioning the quality control of these UFX units now. I guess I could just have terribly bad luck ?
I really hope I don't have ports just randomly die on me out of nowhere when I'm out of warranty....

Re: Dead midi port on Fireface UFX ?

Hello matthias-
I am also using a ufx with a macbook pro and logic. I have never had an issue entering midi data to a session, however today for the first time I connected another midi tone generator to the ufx midi 2 port (I also tried midi 1). The controller is connected to Midi in and I can see the input appearing on the ufx. However I can't get any midi output from either port 1 or port 2.

Is this a recurring problem? It seems there have been many midi issues with this device.
