Topic: Fireface 400 not recognised, host LED always lit

A couple of days ago, while I was working and listening to music, I accidentally disconnected the power cable from the back of my PC when another loose cable snagged in my feet. My Fireface 400 runs from the DC power supply, so it remained on when the power cut out, and was running perfectly beforehand.

Since then, the FF400 isn't recognised - I've tried with different cables, different OS installations, different Firewire cards, and on a different computer, all with the same result; the device can't be started (Code 10 error on Windows). It's unlikely that simple loss of power to the PC should have caused any electrical damage to the unit, as the only connection between the two is the Firewire cable.

Before I start thinking about sending it in for repair, any ideas on possible causes/fixes?

No takers?

After reading a little more around the forum, it seems possible that the problem I'm having is something similar to the issues that can occur with hotplugging. Whatever the cause, time for a repair.

I'm in Switzerland - do I have to go though MusicNetwork, or can I send the unit directly for repair in Germany? It's a second-hand unit, if that makes any difference, so warranty doesn't come into the equation.

I'd appreciate any info. Vielen Dank!

Hi, did you get this sorted? I have the same problem here, but in my case due to a crappy Firewire cable and electromagnetic interference when I switched off my monitors. Now the Host LED is permanently on. Rebooting my PC didn't work. I've also tried various combinations to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Afraid not, I had to send it in for a replacement FireWire chip.

I discovered my Fireface is not broken, it's my laptop that's broken! I tested it on a mate's computer and it works fine. Huge relief!
