Topic: Babyface set up

I am relatively new to the interface game having only had one previous to my new Babyface.

I would like to connect my 4 channel mixer via XLR output to the XLR inputs on the interface.
I would then like to have balanced TRS line Outputs to the TRS Inputs on my active monitors for playback.

I have all these cables newly bought but I was wondering if this is the way to go or just get two more XLR cables to replace the
TRS option.

Also, before I connect or install anything, should I use the latest Mac drivers for OSX 10.6.8? Or is an older driver version more stable to use for Snow Leopard?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

Re: Babyface set up

Hi Brian,

The Babyface only has 2 analog inputs, which means you can only record 2 channels simultaneously as-is. You can add a 2ch or 8ch AD/DA converter to the unit via the optical I/O to get more analog inputs.

You can get XLR to TRS cables to connect the Babyface XLR out to the monitors TRS ins.

Always use the latest driver and Firmware, unless you run an old OS that is not supported by the new driver.

Re: Babyface set up

Thanks for quick reply Jeff.

I will get the XLR out to TRS in but in the meantime can I use the two Babyface TRS Out (Headphone/Line) to TRS Monitors to have a play around or are their pitfalls?

I saw another post that mentions putting the XLR input to 0dB, will I have to do this as well?

Re: Babyface set up

These are both stereo (Phones) outputs, so no.

Re: Babyface set up

One last question on this topic, if I have the choice of XLR out on the Babyface to TRS OR/AND XLR input on monitors, would their be a logical reason for picking one over the other in terms of signal quality/strength, safety etc...

Thanks

Brian
