Topic: How do I increase vocal gain on the babyface?

So I just bought the babyface, and have it hooked up into fl studio 10.

I selected asio fireface  for input and output. I have an sm7b microphone connected into the second slot.

My question is, how do I adjust the vocal gain settings on the babyface?

Do I select the "in" led, then turn the knob so that the lights on the left turn orange?  I am confused.  Is the vocal gain fixed?

Re: How do I increase vocal gain on the babyface?

To adjust the analog preamp gain for your microphone you have to choices:
- select input channel 1 or 2 with Babyface encoder and turn the encoder to the right to increase the gain
or
- open TotalMix, click the little tool icon on channel 1 or 2 and turn the gain knob to the right

In both cases turning the encoder/gain knob provides up to 60 dB gain. This is more than enough for the sm7b. Keep in mind, the channel fader has no effect on the pre AD signal and the recorded signal - it just controls the monitor volume.

The Inst button changes the input from the XLR input to the Instrument inoput on the right of the Babyface. This is a high-impedance input (Hi-Z) for electrical guitrs and basses and deactivates the (Mic) input 2 on the breakout cable.
