Topic: FF400 Firmware update question

Can someone please confirm I am doing the right thing:

Am running XP with firmware 1.70 and driver version 2.9992.

Have just bought a new Laptop running Win 7 64 bit and need to upgrade firmware to 1.71. before connecting to new machine and installing Win 7 driver 3.xxx


I tried to run the fireface_fut_400.exe on the XP system and nothing happened, no dialog box opened.

It should be working. Is the FF400 showing up in Device Manager? HOST error LED lit up?

Hi Jeff,

Yes the FF400 is in the device manager (this is the old computer running XP,  have not connected the FF400 to the Win 7 system yet).

Are you able to open the Fireface Mixer and Fireface Settings apps in the system tray?

Hi Jeff, yes no problem with the FF400 - working normally.  had to leave this to go out, shut down Windows and got a message the ff400 flash utility was open and waiting for a response - so it looks like a display problem, which happened to another member of the forum. Away from the studio now, will get back to it later.  Thanks for your quick response.  best, C

Tried the FUT again on xp system - still no luck.  Nothing happened when I opened it.
But seeing as i have firmware 1.70 I was able to install driver 3.067 on the Win 7 system and all is ok even using the built in 4pin FW400 port on the laptop.....will upgrade to an express card with a TI chip later.
That's a relief!

Hi Chris,

Fut 170 is compatible with windows 7, update to 171 is not urgend (see link below).

You can now try to run the FUT tool under windows 7. There may be incompatibilities when you use a combination of FUT and driver that does not match. In general, please use always the latest driver / Fut combination from the rme website. If you had an older firmware, say 1.69 install the latest driver and run the FUT afterwards.
